Share Our World: Rainbow Bridge Monument and Hike

During our Lake Powell Vacation we took a couple of little trips in the pontoon boat, the first one was to Rainbow Bridge.

Rainbow Bridge is one of the world's largest known natural bridges.
The span is 234 feet (71 m). At the top it is 42 feet (13 m) thick and 33 feet (10 m) wide

It s considered sacred by some Native American Tribes.

With the extremely low water levels at Lake Powell it is quite a journey to get to the bridge.

We all go in the pontoon boat and headed up the canyon.

The canyon was gorgeous!

In this map you can see where the boat couldn't go any further and we had to get out and walk through the dried up riverbed. It was really pretty, even if a bit hot.

There was another boat stuck in the muck so they climbed on our boat and were able to get to the shore. We hiked up with them to the monument.

This hike gets a 8/10

2ViewsGreat views all around
2DestinationBeautiful natural bridge
2Time on trial2.85 miles and 2 hours

We started the hike part at 11:10am and got back to the boat at 1:15pm. My phone tracked 2.85 miles, 8970 steps and 2 hours.

According to All Trails the hike from the boat docks is 1.8 miles up and back and 32 minutes. Because of the water level we got to hike an extra 1.55 miles.

There was talk of quicksand. I don't know if it could be, it was thick!

First view of Rainbow Bridge

We got some pictures

Then hiked a bit closer.

It reminds me a bit of Delicate Arch. If you like arches check out my Arches of Southern Utah Collection. Love this feature in @PeakD!

We had a great time hiking to Rainbow Bridge as a family!
