Exploring the Chaos: Forcefield

Forcefield.png

Introduction

Hi! @saydie here playing Splinterlands everyday.

This is Exploring the Chaos where I take a look on Chaos Legion and now also the Riftwatchers cards, as they brought new abilities that changes how we play the game.

The last Chaos Legion ability that I tackle would be Fury which was an ability that first introduced with the arrival of the Chaos Legion mini- set, the Riftwatchers. This ability deals 2x damage on opponents with the Taunt. The next ability that I am going to discuss is the Forcefield ability.

Icon
Ability Name
Description
ability_forcefield_med.png
Forcefield
This Monster takes only 1 damage from attacks with power 5+.

Prons

  • Cards with 5 or more damage will only be able to deal 1 damage on cards with Forcefield abilty,

  • Ability takes effect regardless of the attack type as long as it has 5 or more damage.

Cons

  • Ability does not work when the attack of the opponent is less than 5.

  • Ability does not work on Deathblow, Fury, Giant Killer, Opress and Recharge as long as the base attack of the monster is not more than 5.

The Forcefield ability works similar to Shield or Void on the way that it reduced the damage a monster will received but only from monsters with 5 or more mana but instead of reducing it to half of the attackers damage, this ability makes it into 1 regardless of its damage. However, it does not work when against abilities such as Recharge where the opponent skips a turn and deal 3x thier base damage as the base damage of the monster remains the same and the additional damage was because of the ability.

Lore

Ifrit Rising considers himself a demi-god. Huge in size and powerful in fire magic, he travels through underground rivers of magma and emerges from within volcanoes around the lands. In his display of strength and ferocity, anyone near him when he emerges either runs in fright, becomes his meal, or worships him as a god. And he is just fine with any of those options.

For Ifrit Rising knows he is superior to all other beings. He is able to harness fire magic to his command, and is just as deadly in melee as he is at range. He is currently resting deep underneath the Mountain of Ash on Praetoria.

And word has reached his ears that the Chaos Legion intends to enter through his domain and conquer the Splinterlands. Ifrit Rising sees this as another opportunity to have more mortals worship him, and claim more dominion for himself. So he is happy to help the Chaos Legion in any of their endeavors. Dawn of the Djinn 3 of 4 - The Djinn are angry at the way they were tricked by the Planet, but also appreciative that they can now enjoy this limited freedom, each trapped by natural forces. The Djinn possess powerful ancient magic of their own, which is now charged into the force of one element for each of them. The ancient demons of war are an awkward bunch to be chosen as a planetary defensive force, but they are also impressively capable of the job. As long as they are bound by the Planet, they will do its bidding. Whatever their would-be choices and allegiances, they will fight against the Chaos Legion to protect the sixth mana gate. Lore

Mycelic Slipspawn was first found on the edges of the swamps of Praetoria, in areas where the fetid waters meet with the forests and jungles. It is highly toxic and grows to a substantial size. Death is uncommon for those who touch its fibrous body however, the side effects of its toxins can cause a long list of illnesses and disease, leaving its victims severely debilitated.

When the chaos portal opened and the creeping plague infected the land, the Slipspawn struggled to endure, being completely intolerant to the deadly pandemic. But then Queen Mycelia came, she touched the Slipspawn as she passed it by and it drank from her power, an enduring energy that ran deep and defiantly cast the pestilence of the chaos taint aside. The Slipspawn pulled its roots free from the ground and eagerly danced across the leafy forest floor after her, desperate to follow its saviour and stand by her in the times to come. Prismologists are experts at illusory and light-based magic using prisms. Armed with their custom built prism, they bring them to the battlefield to manipulate magic around themselves. Light dances around them in a rainbow of colors as they lay waste to a bloody battlefield.

Those who wish to become Prismologists train at the Peace of Light Monastery from dawn until dusk with the goal of joining the order of the Spectrum Prism. Their mastery of light and glass allows them to perform spectacularly stunning and powerful magic.

In order to become a full-fledged Spectrum member and Prismologist, a spellcaster must craft their own Prism to use as a focus for their spells. Each summer solstice, future Prismologists journey from the Shimmer City to the deserts of Draykh Nahka to collect sand and create their own prism. Continue Reading...

Lore

Before joining the Riftwatchers, Atuat made his living at the helm of a custom-built raft capable of low-level flight. Using his mastery of the elemental mana of life, he steered it over the ice fields on his homeworld of Dumacke, transporting supplies along various trade routes. When the Chaos Legion attacked, he used his raft to carry his people out of harm’s way, spending countless days and nights evacuating as many as he could from towns and villages caught in the Legion’s path. It was then he earned his title “the Tempest” for his fury on the battlefield and his willingness to take on his enemies single-handedly, even when vastly outnumbered and outgunned.

Following the destruction of Dumacke and the loss of its mana, the Riftwatchers took to the skies in their airships, scouring the desolate plains for survivors. Atuat looked from his little raft to the mighty airborne vessels and grinned. He swore that, one day, he’d stand at one’s helm and rain his wrath upon the legions of chaos.

Today, Atuat does just that. He is the captain of the largest airship in the Riftwatcher’s fleet and the commanding Runemancer of their aerial forces. When he is not searching for and lending aid to survivors on realms destroyed by the Chaos Legion, he is training his captains and his crews. He has taken personal responsibility for their readiness. When the day comes that they take to the skies and set sail for war, he will sail at their front, harpoon in hand, ready to earn his title of “the Tempest” a thousand times over again.Continue Reading...

Lore

All rumors whispered in the darkest corners guess at where Djinn Muriat came from. Some say a union with death and darkness manifested him. Some say an underground rift opened and he clawed his way through. And others say a great dragon of darkness breathed its necrotic breath into a sacred temple, and the mixing of mana created Djinn Muriat.

The Djinn rules deep underneath Mortis, seated on a throne of skulls within his home, the Palace of Bone. He has hundreds of servants in his command, and even more people under his influence.

Through centuries many have tried to claim the Palace of Bone for themselves. For within lies ancient treasures, powerful spell scrolls, and long-buried secrets. Djinn Muriat repels each one. The most powerful to have tried was the great serpent dragon Gamadan the Earthquake. It slithered its way into the palace, consuming all of Djinn Muriat's soldiers that stood before it, until it came to the throne room itself. Djinn Muriat killed it in a single blow, and now has its skull mounted above his throne. Continue Reading...

Lore

On the storm-ridden realm of Veorgaror, the night ghoul carved out its existence in the lonesome darkness. It fed on small prey in the wetlands and underground, and although it looked utterly terrifying, the creature rarely killed, preferring instead to forage the rotting meat of corpses.

When the Chaos Legion captured it, they saw a vicious potential buried deep within the monster. They took the powerful topaz garnet, fashioned within the chaos forges using dark mana, and forced it into the creature’s eye socket. The gem’s magic radiated bursts of pain through its skull, sending it into a murderous frenzy. Not only that, but the gem’s chaos energy also served as a dampener, allowing the ghoul to absorb massive damage with minimal effect.

The Chaos Legion needed somewhere to test the night ghoul’s effectiveness as a berserker killer, and where better than the Splinterlands. It never hurts to remind a conquered people of who won, now and again. Continue Reading...

Arkemis the Bear: A Splinterlands Parable

Sunrise and sunset, the seasons, the tides, the rise and fall of nations, birth, death, war, regret. These things will come to pass. They are inevitable.

So, too, is Arkemis, known throughout the Splinterlands simply as “The Bear.”

In some cases, many years pass before The Bear’s coming. In others, only a few. It is never predictable, but it always comes.

When it does, it is unfailingly presaged by calamity. Sometimes, it is a drought that grips the land. Crops wither and die, and famine follows. Sometimes, it is a disease or pestilence that strikes without regard for station or status, scourging nobles and commoners alike. Sometimes, it is strife and conflict sown in the name of religion, liberty, justice, pride, or principle. Nations are torn asunder, cities are set ablaze by civil war, and blood is spilled in the streets as kinsfolk beset one another. Sometimes, it is all of this and more. In turn, the price of goods and services collapses. Jobs are lost, and many find themselves on the streets. Continue Reading...

This is a 56 Mana Cap battle where attacks will have Blast damage and using Range monsters will be disadvantageous so I choose the summoner Kelya Frendul for a Water team composing of melee and magic Card. On round 2, all my melee cards were defeated and that is where Djinn Oshannus comes on the 1st position and is targeted by Deeplurker with 5 damage but because of Forcefield, it only gets 1.

For this battle, the slower monster gets to attack first while they also lose the Sneak and Snipe abilities. I choose the Earth summoner Obsidian which gives +1 magic damage because there are lots of slow magic monsters on Earth Element but since I have suspected that the opponent will use Mylor Crowling I have decided to place Mycelic Slipspawn on the 1st position which was attacked by Mycelic Infantry with 5 damage and 8 when it was Enrage but since Mycelic Slipspawn has Forcefield, it only received 1 damage.

For this battle, Healing abilities were inaccessible and the slower team gets to attack first so I used the summoner Grandmaster Rathe since It does not give speed buffs and instead gives +1 armor for additional protection and Void Armor ability which prevents magic attacks to pass.

The first image shows that Mordeus with 5 damage attacks Prismologist but only deals 1 damage on its armor.

On the next image, it was Djinn Atuat's turn to get attacked by Sandworm with 5 damage but also have the same outcome with Mordeous as it also only gets 1 damage.

On this match, I used the summoner Mimosa Nightshade in order to reduce both magic and range attack of my opponent then place Night Ghoul as tank because it was slow which was a good choice with the rule set. It was the attacked by Torhillo the Frozen right at the start of round 1 with 5 damage but then it only deals 1 damage because of the Forcefield.

Final Thoughts

Having an opponent with 5 or more damage is a serious thing and a landed attack can be a very fatal damage which can cause defeat but with the help of Forcefield, we were able to received far lesser damage than what it is supposed to. While the ability is not perfect as there where abilities that just ignores this ability, they still served their purpose when the time comes.
