Exploring the Chaos: Giant Killer

Giant Killer.png

Introduction

Hi! @saydie here playing Splinterlands everyday.

This is Exploring the Chaos where I take a look on Chaos Legion and now also the Riftwatchers cards, as they brought new abilities that changes how we play the game.

The last Chaos Legion ability that I tackle would be Deathblow. An ability that allows the monster to deal twice the damage on a opponent when it was the only one left on the team. With this week's post, I will talk about Giant Killer, an ability that can deal 2x the damage on enemies with 10 or more mana.

Description
ability_giant-killer_small.png
Giant Killer
Does double damage against targets that cost 10 or more mana

Prons

  • Deals 2x the damage when against an opponent with 10 or more mana- cost.

Cons

  • Ability won't trigger unless the opponent has at least 10 mana- cost.

Like Deathblow and RechargeRecharge, Giant Killer needs to fulfill some requirements before the ability is triggered and with there not so many monsters with 10 or more mana, this it's rare to have a team that is composed of more than 3 monsters with 10+ mana even with a 99 mana cap so once the monster with 10+ mana got defeated, there will be no use for this ability.

Lore

Grum is known throughout his tribe as the strongest warrior. Born in the Sands of Draykh-Nahka, his hard upbringing made him a survivor. There was no weather too extreme, no drought too long, and no enemy too cunning for Grum. He became well-respected within the region for his battle prowess and defended his tribe countless times against the creatures of the wastes. Tales were sung around the fires of Grum's battle with the Great Wyrm of the Sands, the Earth-Shaking Titan, and Velissa the Sorceress. Grum's tribe, known as the Desert Blood, honored tradition, strength, and courage. He grew to become a legend amongst his people.

One day, he felt the spirits of his ancestors calling to him. Going on a solitary journey into the wasteland, he connected with an ancient past. A ruin lay deep underneath the desert that housed powerful mana. That connection imbued him with magic, and he became able to summon fire on his great sword, making him more formidable than ever before.

Grum could have taken this gift and used it to defend his tribe, but instead, he became arrogant. Who could defeat a warrior with a blade of fire? He began traveling, seeking out any foe that pleased him and doing as he chose. Even in the often dangerous draconic lands of Draykh-Nahka, there were few who would cross Grum. Continue Reading...

Those that sided with the High Magus became known as anachron cabalists.

Lore

When the Dream Ryder traveled into the underworld to become the Overlord of Dreams and rule the Five Realms of Mortis Deep, he all but forgot his previous life as a desert warrior. That all changed, however, when his old friend and companion, Raa, found his way into the underworld through the hidden gateway on Bren-Ha’s western slopes. The Overlord sensed his friend’s presence and rushed to protect him from the terrifying monsters of the Five Realms. Alas, he was too late. When he found Raa, there was little he could do to save his dying friend’s shattered body. Instead, he cradled Raa’s spirit and carried it with him until he could find a worthy vessel.

As retribution for the attack on his oldest friend, the Overlord traveled to the Realms of Silence, Fear, and Justice, demanding a tribute from each of the realms’ guardians. Next, he uncovered the crumbling bones of his predecessor, once thought lost among the wild nightmares of the Dream Realm. The Overlord fused the spirit of Raa with the broken skeleton and imbued it with the tributes of the other realms. A burning red light shone from within and, beneath its rotting leather hood, Raa’s eyes lit with a warped crimson fire.

The Overlord was not finished. There was one last realm that needed to atone. The Overlord rode his dark steed, Nightwind, into the Realm of Deception and once again demanded a tribute. The realm’s guardian attempted to fool the Overlord and produced the chain used to shackle truth and hide honesty. He was certain his master would not dare to take it, but the Overlord of Dreams carried it away and gave it to Raa. The Realm of Deception fell. into turmoil as truth and honesty spilled forth. All rumors whispered in the darkest corners guess at where Djinn Muriat came from. Some say a union with death and darkness manifested him. Some say an underground rift opened and he clawed his way through. And others say a great dragon of darkness breathed its necrotic breath into a sacred temple, and the mixing of mana created Djinn Muriat.

The Djinn rules deep underneath Mortis, seated on a throne of skulls within his home, the Palace of Bone. He has hundreds of servants in his command, and even more people under his influence.

Through centuries many have tried to claim the Palace of Bone for themselves. For within lies ancient treasures, powerful spell scrolls, and long-buried secrets. Djinn Muriat repels each one. The most powerful to have tried was the great serpent dragon Gamadan the Earthquake. It slithered its way into the palace, consuming all of Djinn Muriat's soldiers that stood before it, until it came to the throne room itself. Djinn Muriat killed it in a single blow, and now has its skull mounted above his throne. Continue Reading...

Over time, the Riftwatchers have developed and refined a suit powered by pistons, gears, and dragon magic. A marvel of runic engineering, it allows its wearer to take flight and soar through the sky on mechanical, dragon-like wings. Using reinforced tubes, the user can release precision beams of fire from the palms of their hands. The suit’s sophisticated servos and actuators are extremely responsive to the natural movement of the body, providing extraordinary agility while in flight.

It takes years of training to become proficient in the use of these suits. Thankfully, runemancers have installed certain safeguards to reduce the mortality rate of trainees, such as crash avoidance, unconsciousness-activated auto-flight, and a projectile warning system. Continue Reading...

When the Venari dug their tunnels and burrows, creating the Realm of Silence, little did they know of the ancient creatures they disturbed hidden beneath the ground. Forgotten, from almost a millennia ago, these dragons were awakened and gripped by an everlasting hunger. Unfortunately for the Venari, they were the first poor souls to run into these feral beasts and were sent fleeing through their tunnels in horror at what they’d uncovered.”

The Desert Dragon is most commonly found east of the Jade Thickett, on the sandy plains of the Ixzoc. Its long neck is banded red and black, with savage horns that sprout from its head and vicious fangs more wicked than scimitars that line its jaws. Quite often assumed as a lumbering, flightless giant with wings that are tattered and torn, many make the mistake that it cannot move quickly and will sometimes stray too close. But any that have seen it hunt the plain grazers will know, not only can the beast move with considerable speed, the terrifying charge will often leave its target rooted to the spot with terror, unable to flee its impending doom. The Desert Dragon is so big that on rare occasions its attack has been mistaken for seismic activity and minor earthquakes. Continue Reading...

The Chaos Legionnaires are ruthless warriors and the Chaos Legion's elite fighting force. Alvar Veralyn was conscripted into their ranks at a young age after his family was slain and his world conquered by the Chaos Legion. The harsh conditioning that all conscripts receive nearly broke the child, but in the end, his old, easy way of life was subsumed by the desire for battle and conquest. Alvar dedicated himself to his training, intent on reshaping his mind and his body until he had no equal on the battlefield. Eventually, he rose to the rank of General and now stands as leader of the Chaos Legionnaires.

Alvar is a most imposing sight on the battlefield. His armor is imbued to withstand the strongest of magical attacks, and even the mightiest of foes is no match for his massive, two-handed sword, which some say was forged in the Realm of Nightmare. He lives for battle, wading through his enemies and striking them down as he seeks out the strongest among them to engage in single combat. He enjoys nothing more than watching the life fade from his opponent's eyes. His conquests are legendary even among the Legionnaires, and he earned the title of Godkiller after the Battle of Dargnilat, during which he single-handedly defeated one of the Old Gods. The rule set is Heavy Hitters where stunned opponents gets double damage but I do not have monster with that ability for this league so instead, I choose Conqueror Jacek for my summoner because the speed it provided can help to evade monsters with stun ability in case if the opponent has one while also giving me the chance to attack with my team first as well as the Piercing and Scattershot then there is also Supply runner and Countess Sinash to provide with more speed. The opponent on the other hand chooses Obsidian as its summoner, providing the opponent with +1 magic where there are monsters with 10+ mana cost with them. Good thing that I have Djinn Inferni that at the first round attacks Oaken Behemoth with 6 damage because it was Silence Mushroom Seer but when it got defeated at the 2nd round, the damage becomes 8 where it got to defeat Oaken Behemoth and at round 4 for Kron the Undying.

For this battle, there are 2 rule sets which are Explosive Weaponry and Odd Ones out but the mana cap is low. Despite of that, I choose to use Grum Flameblade together with the summoner Tarsa because what I'm aiming on this battle is for Grum to potentially Bloodlust if the opponent uses multiple monsters with low health but the opponent uses Uriel The Purifier as it's secondary tank for a range team using General Sloan. Luckily all the attacks of Grum Flameblade hits Uriel the Purifier, removing all of it's armor on the 1st round and defeating it on the 2nd round with 12 damage each hit.

For this battle, the rule set was Target Practice which makws the focus of attack comes will be from Snipe attacks but we also have the giant Uriel the Purifier against Legionnaire Alvar which becomes faster with the summoner Ilthain and gets the Return Fire ability which also becomes helpful in this battle. Uriel the Purifier Recieves 6 damage from Legionnaire Alvar though there are times that it misses so the match took a little longer as 6 rounds.

Final Thoughts

Unlike Recharge and Deathblow, Giant Killer was an ability that is easier to use and while there are still very few monsters with the 10 or more mana, having a monster that can be a threat to this cards makes it more likely win the match and it is quite satisfying when a big chunk of damage was dealt on only one attack.
