Riftwatchers-Life.png

Amidst the Chaos that has brought only darkness and despair.
A small flicker of light may carry all the world's hope.
The Riftwatchers are coming
And the Splinterlands will never be the same.

Introduction

Hi! @Saydie here, playing Splinterlands everyday.

Ritwatchers is a mini set for the Chaos Legion much like how Dice is for the Untamed and for quite a while now, Riftwatchers have been available for ranked battles and has brought big changes on the game. Not only that most of the monsters are mana- hungry as lots of them cost high mana, some even exceeding 10, they also introduced a new ability called Fury which doubles the damage for monsters that have the Taunt ability. I'm done with the all the Summoners as well as the Fire, Water and Earth monsters, now I'm going with Life monsters.

Lore

While many call him a vigilante, Harlan Lowcastle prefers “Hero of the People.” Growing up in a large city, Harlan saw a great deal of suffering as the powers that be looked on with indifference or, even worse, used it to their advantage. Despite his upbringing in a wealthy family of the upper class, he left his life behind. His parents disowned him, but he didn’t care. There were bigger problems in the world.

After that, Harlan lived on the streets of the inner city, staying on the move and helping those in need, providing food, medical supplies, and access to other subsistence they required to survive. When he couldn’t get it legally, he had no qualms about using other means. To Harlan, the wealthy were nothing but gluttons and abusers who ignored the misery of others while hording their own riches and living a life of excess. Continue Reading...

Dumacke exiles are hardy warriors acclimated to the cold tundras and steep mountain ranges of their homeworld. They carry a shield imbued with runic magic designed to dampen sound, and their weapons are infused with a deadly toxin. Lore

Runeslingers are the guardians and protectors of the Riftwatchers’ leadership, the Runemancers. They are steadfast and wholly dedicated to their mission, willing to give their lives if necessary.

Their weapon, the runethrower, was designed by Oshuur Constantia herself. Each is meticulously crafted in the workshops of the Riftwatchers and customized to fit the individual runeslinger. Its discs can not only stun and cripple their target, but they are also imbued with runes carrying a potent affliction that makes spells of healing ineffective.

Only the very brave or the very foolish would choose to go head-to-head with the personal bodyguard of the Runemancers.Continue Reading...

Lore

Given the Chaos Legion’s superior strength and numbers, the Riftwatchers needed to find other advantages if they were to have any hope of one day standing against them. Thus, over the years, they developed runic devices and techno-magic to chronicle the Legion’s tactics and strategies.

*One such device is the clockwork amulet.

Time Meddlers use this amulet to apply what they’ve learned of the Chaos Legion on the battlefield, briefly stepping outside the flow of time to dodge an enemy’s attack or strike back against them.Continue Reading...

Lore

Before joining the Riftwatchers, Atuat made his living at the helm of a custom-built raft capable of low-level flight. Using his mastery of the elemental mana of life, he steered it over the ice fields on his homeworld of Dumacke, transporting supplies along various trade routes. When the Chaos Legion attacked, he used his raft to carry his people out of harm’s way, spending countless days and nights evacuating as many as he could from towns and villages caught in the Legion’s path. It was then he earned his title “the Tempest” for his fury on the battlefield and his willingness to take on his enemies single-handedly, even when vastly outnumbered and outgunned.

Following the destruction of Dumacke and the loss of its mana, the Riftwatchers took to the skies in their airships, scouring the desolate plains for survivors. Atuat looked from his little raft to the mighty airborne vessels and grinned. He swore that, one day, he’d stand at one’s helm and rain his wrath upon the legions of chaos.

Today, Atuat does just that. He is the captain of the largest airship in the Riftwatcher’s fleet and the commanding Runemancer of their aerial forces. When he is not searching for and lending aid to survivors on realms destroyed by the Chaos Legion, he is training his captains and his crews. He has taken personal responsibility for their readiness. When the day comes that they take to the skies and set sail for war, he will sail at their front, harpoon in hand, ready to earn his title of “the Tempest” a thousand times over again.Continue Reading...

Final Thoughts

With Riftwatchers now added to the ranked battles, it added more varieties and combinations on the strategies that we can use specially on High- Mana battles and one thing I notice is that even at their base level, most of this monster are competitive enough for higher leagues.

The Life team has a very balanced team in terms that it has a splinter available for every attack types. I was thinking that the skillsets for the Time Meddler does not really match the character but after reading it's lore, I now understand why does it have those abilities and once again, reminds me that every Splinterlands character does not just simply made just so we have more cards to play but each of them has a unique story to tell.

The monsters that I really like on this group was Runeslinger because of the StunStun with just the right mana-cost. Corsair Bosun is also one of my favorite with the Reach that allows it to attack on the 2nd position and the Reflection Shield that makes it immune from indirect damage. On the other hand, I find Runemancer Atuat a little underwhelming despite being a legendary card that will always be compared to Kron the Undying as they both have the Last Stand ability. It all comes down to Kron the Undying's Heal which allows it to restore a portion of it's life every time that it was damaged. Runmancer Atuat does not have this ability that is why when those 2 legendary card goes into match, it is obvious who will win.
