Hello, friends especially foodies!

On Monday, after had had our SUPER dinner, mom and I didn’t forget to visit one of our favorite snack stall. The snack sold there processed by frying, it had crunchy texture outside but it was soft inside. All the ingredients that made it were totally vegan friendly. Could you guess from this article cover picture, what snack did we had?

I would like to explain a bit about the snack we had. The snack we had authentically came from our lovely country, Indonesia, it made from tofu as it based ingredient and it wrapped with aci. If you unfamiliar with aci, it actually a kind of flour, it made from the extract of the roots of cassava, and if it mixed in the food, the texture of the food would become a bit harder and also chewy, and the food would be much better if you eat it when it is still hot or warm. A bit history of it, aci came from West Java and this kind of flour found more than 200 years ago, so our people already familiar with this kind of flour. I don’t know do you also have this kind of flour in your country too?

Now let’s go back to my foodie experience. The stall where we bought the snack was located at the first floor, so after had had our dinner on the ground floor we right away went to this food stall.

The food stall was small and like usually the seller would smile to us, I remembered that she came from my mother’s caregiver area. She was like usually kind and nice.

This small food stall only sold aci tofu (fried tofu wrapped with aci flour). They sold this ready to eat tofu in regular or large portion. The regular one only consisted of 10 pieces of tofu while the large one contained 16 pieces of it.

For the flavour they had original which had savory flavour and served with spicy chilli soy sauce or served with cabe rawit.. They even had it with seaweed or barbeque powder seasoning.

After had ordered, the seller processed the tofu. How to made it was quite simple because they already had the secret dough recipes with aci flour as the skin like we could see it also contain leeks, while inside was tofu. The seller cut the tofu first then wrapped it with the dough flour then fried it. After the color yellow enough, she picked it up from the fryer.

While the seller prepared our tofu, mom was waiting on the bench not far from the stall. Before, they had a small dining area there, but we didn’t know why they didn’t have it now. But luckily the bench was soft because that time we didn’t want to take away the snack to prevent it got colder after we arrived home later.

When we were waiting, some other customers came to ask whether they still could buy the tofu aci or whether it sold out, I took a conclusion that this stall was quite popular because they really worried about the sold out of these tofu.

I paid, it was 25K IDR after the cashback for the large portion of the tofu, so it was around 1.7 USD for a portion. I think it was not expensive though.

TA DA, here how the tofu aci looked after the seller finished frying it. It served with the brown sauce which was chilli soy sauce to accompany the tofu.

Like usually the tofu aci tasted the best. It had crunchy chewy texture outside and also soft texture inside. The tofu had savory flavour and didn’t have any sour flavour because they made it from fresh tofu. Really it was so tasty served hot plus if you like spicy, you could also like me dipping it in the sauce before eating it. The sauce would bring extra sweet spicy flavour to complete the cruncy savory fried tofu. And great thing that it was totally vegan friendly.

So when will you try these vegan friendly snacks too?

Thanks for reading my article, hope you enjoy it and stay tuned for more CRAFT things from me!
