Hello friends, especially foodies!
There are some restaurants that you visit once and then forget about.
And there are some restaurants that somehow keep finding their way into your food memories.
This dimsum restaurant is one of those restaurants for me.
My godmother was actually the one who introduced me to this place. We had gone there several times together, and every time I came back, I understood why I liked it. The ingredients tasted good, the portions were satisfying, and most importantly, the dimsum was genuinely delicious.
We even managed to get a 50% off promotion when we visited before, which of course made us even happier. 😂 But honestly, the promotion wasn't the only reason we kept coming back.
This time, I came here with my husband.
And there was someone else joining us too—inside me. ❤️
Here is the restaurant.
A Dimsum Menu With Plenty of Choices
One thing I like about this restaurant is that the menu isn't limited to just the usual steamed dumplings.
There are different kinds of steamed dimsum, such as hakau, xiaolong bao, shewmay and various steamed buns. There are also fried dimsum, including crispy rolls and taro-based snacks, as well as other items and sweet treats like onde-onde.
So if you're coming with several people, it is quite easy to order different dishes and share them together.
And that's exactly what we did. 😂
We ended up ordering quite a few things because, honestly, everything looked tempting.
Plus they also had some chinese tea choices too, to accompany the dimsum...
Hakau (Shrimp Dumplings)
Of course, we had to order hakau.
Hakau, also known as har gow, is a steamed shrimp dumpling traditionally made with a translucent, slightly chewy wrapper.
What I really love about the hakau here is the shrimp.
The shrimp are BIG!
You can actually see the generous pieces of shrimp inside rather than getting a dumpling that is mostly filled with shrimp paste.
The wrapper is delicate and slightly chewy, while the shrimp filling has a nice bite to it.
This is definitely one of the dishes that makes me want to come back.
Xiaolong Bao
We also ordered xiaolong bao, the small steamed buns usually filled with pork and savory soup. This is my most favorite kind of dimsum, actually!
Unlike an ordinary steamed bun, xiaolong bao has juicy soup inside, so you have to be a little careful when biting into it. 😂 you could also use the spoon to help holding it while sipping the soup.
The bun itself is soft, while the filling is savory and juicy.
Shewmay
Then there was the shewmay, and this one was one of my favorites too.
The filling was made with pork and shrimp, and it tasted AMAZING.
The pork gives the filling a richer flavor, while the shrimp gives it that nice bouncy texture.
This was definitely one of those dishes where, after taking a bite, I immediately thought, "yes, this is really good."
Chasiew Bao
We also had chasiew bao, or steamed BBQ pork buns.
These are fluffy steamed buns filled with char siu, the Cantonese-style roasted BBQ pork.
The filling has a savory-sweet flavor that goes really nicely with the soft, slightly sweet bun.
Taro Fried Dimsum with Chicken & Mushroom
For the fried dimsum, we tried fried taro filled with chicken and mushroom.
The outside is made from mashed taro that becomes crispy when fried, while the inside has a savory chicken and mushroom filling.
I really like this kind of dimsum too because you get two different textures in one bite—the crispy outside and the soft, savory filling inside. Actually this one was my late mom's favorite dimsum, having it always reminds me of her.
You could also add chili oil to make it even more perfect. Their chili oil was the best!
Lumpia Kulit Tahu (Beancurd springroll)
Another fried dish we ordered was lumpia kulit tahu.
Instead of the usual spring-roll wrapper, this one uses tofu skin, which becomes wonderfully crispy when fried.
The tofu skin gives it a different texture from ordinary lumpia, while the filling inside is savory and flavorful.
Onde-Onde
And then we had onde-onde.
If you're familiar with Indonesian snacks, you probably know these sesame-covered balls.
They are made from glutinous rice flour, which gives them that chewy texture, and are covered generously with sesame seeds.
I actually cut one open because I wanted to show the texture inside.
Look at that chewy, slightly translucent layer!
After eating all those savory dimsum, having something sweet and chewy was actually a nice way to finish.
We Got a Different Spot This Time
Something else was different about this visit.
We've been to this restaurant several times before, but we had never actually sat in this section of the restaurant.
When we arrived this time, the other sections were already quite full.
Fortunately, there was still an empty section inside, so we decided to sit there.
It turned out to be quite nice because when we were eating, there were no other customers in that section yet.
So even though the restaurant itself was getting busy, we had this little quiet corner to ourselves. 😂
By the time we were getting ready to leave, other customers had started coming into the same area.
So I guess we got there at exactly the right time!
And I actually liked sitting there. It felt a little different from our usual visits, almost like discovering another part of a restaurant we'd already been to several times.
And We Were VERY Full 😂
Looking at all the photos now, I understand why.
We ordered quite a lot:
Hakau, xiaolong bao, siomay, chasiew bao, fried taro with chicken and mushroom, lumpia kulit tahu and onde-onde.
By the end of it, we were seriously full and also satisfied. 😂
But that's also what I like about dimsum.
Because the dishes are served in smaller portions, you can try different things instead of having to choose only one main dish.
And when everything looks delicious, you always end up thinking, "let's just order one more."
And then another one.
And another one.
Until you can barely move. 😂
We got to enjoy our food peacefully, eat way too much, and then head home with very full stomachs.
And I think that's really the answer to the question in the title.
Why do we keep coming back for dimsum here?
Because the food is genuinely good.
The ingredients taste good, the fillings are generous, there are plenty of different dimsum choices to try, and when you can get a good promotion on top of that...
Well...
Why wouldn't we come back? 😂🥢❤️
Now you already know the answer.
Curious to try them too?
