My Homemade Japchae (Fried Korean Glass Noodle) Easy Peasy Cooking with My Husband 🍜❤️
Hello, everyone especially foodies!
Today, I want to share another cooking adventure from my kitchen. This time, I tried making japchae, a popular Korean dish made with Korean glass noodles, vegetables, and meat.
I have always enjoyed trying different recipes, especially dishes from other countries. Cooking gives me a chance to experiment with ingredients and discover new flavors. And of course, it is even more fun when I can share the experience with my husband. ❤️
So, let's see how we made our homemade japchae!
Ingredients
Here are the ingredients we used for our homemade japchae.
Main ingredients
• Approximately 250 g Korean glass noodles (sweet potato vermicelli/dangmyeoun)
• 150 g sliced beef
• ½ carrot
• 1 onion
• 3 pieces of kucai (Chinese chives)
• 3 tablespoons soy sauce
• 1 tablespoon sesame oil
• Cooking oil, as needed
• Sesame seeds for the topping
Seasonings
• 1½ teaspoons salt
• 1 teaspoon pepper
• 1 teaspoon mushroom broth seasoning
• Chopped garlic, to taste
Step 1: Preparing the Korean Glass Noodles
The first thing we needed to prepare was the Korean vermicelli, also known as glass noodles. These noodles are usually made from sweet potato starch and become transparent and chewy after cooking.
First, we soaked the noodles in water until they became a little soft. Then, we boiled them until they were ready.
After draining the noodles, we transferred them into a bowl and added 3 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. We stirred everything well until the noodles were evenly coated.
The noodles gradually changed color as they absorbed the soy sauce, while the sesame oil added a lovely aroma. With the noodles ready, we could move on to preparing the other ingredients.
Step 2: Preparing the Beef and Vegetables
Next, we prepared the other ingredients. We had 150 g of sliced beef, half a carrot cut into thin strips, one sliced onion, three pieces of kucai, and some chopped garlic.
I like preparing everything beforehand because it makes the cooking process more convenient. Once all the ingredients are ready, we can concentrate on cooking without having to stop to chop vegetables.
Step 3: Cooking the Beef and Vegetables
Now comes the fun part!
First, I heated some cooking oil in a pan and sautéed the chopped garlic until fragrant. Then, I added the sliced onion, carrots, and kucai.
Next, I added the sliced beef and stirred the ingredients together. I continued cooking and mixing everything until the beef and vegetables were cooked.
The carrots added a bright orange color, while the onions and kucai made the dish look more colorful. Even before adding the noodles, the combination of ingredients was already looking delicious!
Step 4: Bringing Everything Together
Once the beef and vegetables were cooked, I added the glass noodles that we had prepared earlier.
I mixed everything together carefully so the noodles would combine with the beef and vegetables. This was the moment when our japchae really started to come together!
For the final seasoning, I added 1½ teaspoons of salt, 1 teaspoon of pepper, and 1 teaspoon of mushroom broth seasoning. I continued stirring until the ingredients were evenly mixed.
The noodles, beef, and vegetables gradually came together into one delicious-looking dish. I enjoyed watching the transparent noodles combine with the colorful ingredients in the pan.

Our Homemade Japchae Is Ready!
And finally, here is our homemade japchae!
After all the preparation and cooking, we had a bowl of glossy glass noodles mixed with beef, carrots, onions, and kucai. Before serving, I sprinkled sesame seeds on top to finish the dish.
I love how the sesame seeds add a little extra touch to the appearance of the japchae. The combination of chewy noodles, savory beef, and vegetables made it look so inviting.
But do you know what made me happiest?
My husband loved it so much! Wkwkwk! ❤️
It feels wonderful when a dish we make at home turns out well, especially when someone we love enjoys eating it. This cooking experiment made me happy and encouraged me to try more Korean recipes in the future.
My Thoughts on This Cooking Adventure
Making japchae was a lovely experience for us. I enjoyed preparing the ingredients, experimenting with the seasoning, and seeing everything come together into one dish.
I believe cooking is a continuous learning process. There is always something new to try, and sometimes the most satisfying results come from experimenting in our own kitchen.
I'm happy that this japchae turned out so well, and I'm even happier that my husband enjoyed it. Maybe our next cooking adventure will be another Korean dish!
Who knows? Perhaps one day, we will have a whole collection of homemade recipes to share. For now, I'm looking forward to our next little kitchen experiment. Hehe. 🥰
