within the chambers of my heart;
closed doors muffled all sounds.

Each journey is different. Each path has its ups and down. We all experience life in various ways. The people we met in this journey help us change although we may not recognize it right away.
We are shaped by our environment, by our relationships (good or bad). We incorporate into our lives, new things or habits we learn from others. We do it because we enjoy that act, or at a subconscious level we try to make up for something that we are missing (a person, a feeling, etc.).
Our behaviour stems from past experiences and influences our future choices. It is common knowledge that past trauma can haunt your future if the mind is not allowed to heal. Though, how do you heal the mind? It`s easier to say than do!
Anything that had a significant impact in our lives from childhood to present day, has shaped us somehow. Our perceptions got altered by our memories (already distorted) and influenced our decisions. The emotional baggage only grew bigger and bigger until the moment we decided to unburden the load and start digging deeper, searching for answers within ourselves.
The first step in any healing process is acceptance. When you focus your attention on your inner feelings and thoughts, you become aware of the problems and the triggers. Embracing the pain, grief or any symptom disrupting your life enables you to move forward.
Meditation and breathing techniques can actually reveal to you the areas of your body that need healing. People tend to believe that only the heart (i.e. a broken heart) needs to be mended, when in reality the whole body should be taken in consideration.
When we are focused on the present only, without thoughts and worries in our mind, we can identify these areas and use a healing attention to help them. We need to focus on our body and how it feels when we move, when we breath to discover the areas that need to be addressed.
Once we locate them we need to direct our healing attention towards them and let the natural healing process begin. By eliminating gradually this post-traumatic stress, we get a better understanding of the underlying cause which makes it easier for us to let go the past, accept the experience and practice self-love.
Twenty years ago, anyone talking about self-love risked being called a egocentric or narcissist. Luckily, nowadays people have become more aware of its importance. That`s because they have understood the health benefits of loving yourself: happiness, greater motivation, stronger resilience, improved health (physical and mental), self-confidence, self-esteem, self-respect, self-worth.
