Let Widows Smile

blackandwhite1180437_1280.jpg

Don`t judge a widow or her daughters by their smile,
narrowing down their agony to your mindless expectation!
Remember that grief, sorrow and pain grow
exponentially in the darkness of the bedroom!

There, masks fall down, politeness and courtesy die off,
leaving behind an endless void of unanswered questions:
ifs and whys that never got a change to see the light,
deep scars unlikely to heal back, traumas, burdens -
a saddening feeling of never afters.

You have never seen the depths of their despair,
walked on their path to feel their crushing pain
nor ever tried to stitch crumbs of happiness to each other,
so don`t pretend you know or understand their struggle.

When the days turn bleak and there`s nothing to hold on to,
to help them keep their heads above those dark waters
where souls lose flesh and all dreams crush, one after the other,
whilst hope and faith turn into anger and disbelief,
their shattered hearts grow heavier by the hour,
forever sink into an endless turmoil of loss.

Have you ever attended a funeral and witnessed someone gossip and slander the widow? When someone dies, everyone seems to have an opinion about how it happened and what the widow or her children should do from that moment on.

People show no respect to her loss when the go gory about all the details of her life even though they have never cared much about her. They act as if they were entitled to have the most intimate secrets of her life.

In those moments when she struggles to find a reason to go on, not to give up, when she feels utterly broken, they have the nerve to tear down her last bit of hope and strength by making some stupid comments.

If you have ever lost someone close to you, you may have noticed that among those who volunteer to help, there is at least a person that does it for the sake of drama and selfish need of being in the centre of attention.

This deplorable act has nothing to do with kindness, as it solely meant to harm. Unfortunately these people dwell in others` misery, deliberately making others miserable. Instead of offering support they cause more damage, more trauma to deal with.
