#Monomad - Little Bit of the Andes / Un Poquito De Los Andes

Many people associate the Andes with landscapes filled with towering mountains, snow-capped peaks, and perpetual fog, but the truth is that here in Venezuela there’s a little piece of the Andes where it’s warm, the terrain is flat, and the mountains peek out shyly—but where the people are friendly, welcoming, and respectful. Here, the Andean accent blends with the tones of Zulia, the depth of Larense, and the colloquial style of Caracas; Caracas; Caracas; this is how the city of La Fría, in northern Táchira state, becomes a true crossroads, a meeting place for cultures, and a pleasant place to live.

Muchos asocian los Andes con paisajes repletos de grandes montañas, cumbres nevadas y niebla permanente, pero la verdad es que acá en Venezuela existe un pedacito de los Andes en donde hace calor, la geografía es plana y las montañas se asoman de forma tímida, pero en donde la gente es cordial, fraterna y respetuosa. Acá el acento andino se mezcla con los tonos zulianos, la profundidad en larense y la coloquialidad del caraqueño;caraqueño;caraqueño; es así como la ciudad de La Fría, al norte del estado Táchira,, se convierte en un verdadero cruce de caminos, un lugar de encuentro entre culturas y un espacio agradable para vivir.

In these images, there’s a little bit of that city where there are still dirt roads, where the sky seems endless, and where new developments make their way among houses of different styles—each one trying to stand out on its own, to set itself apart and earn a place in the visual landscape. Each shot was taken through the intriguing lens of black and white, but through the nuances and shades of gray, we realize that color shines through in these streets. This is a sensation that, despite using only two tones, is perceptible—and that’s what makes each image so special.

En estas imágenes hay un poquito de esa ciudad en donde aún hay calles de tierra, en donde el cielo parece eterno y las urbanizaciones se abren paso entre casas de diferentes estilos, cada uno de ellos tratando de lucir por sí mismo, para de esta forma marcar la diferencia y ganarse un puesto en el panorama visual. Cada toma se hizo bajo la interesante mirada del blanco y negro, pero a través de los matices y las escalas de grises nos damos cuenta de que en estas calles brilla el color.. Esta es una sensación que,que, a pesar de utilizar dos tonos,, es perceptible, y eso es lo que hace tan especial a cada imagen.

To many, these are boring streets where not much usually happens, but to me, they’re the perfect spots for capturing photographs of a city that’s small but has an enormous spirit—and at the same time, a potential that I hope will be fully realized, since that would make us an undisputed benchmark for urban spaces.

Para muchos, estas son calles aburridas en donde no suele ocurrir mucha actividad, pero para mí son cuadras perfectas para lograr fotografías de una ciudad que es pequeña, pero que cuenta con un espíritu enorme y al mismo tiempo con un potencial que ojalá fuera desarrollado en su totalidad, ya que esto nos convertiría en un espacio urbano de referencia indiscutible.
