Writing a letter to my son may no longer be fashionable, technological tools have left this practice behind, we communicate differently; however, sentiment and intention count even if they are set in stone.

Recently, my eldest son turned 20 years old, that's a lot of years for my little boy who until recently was sleeping in my arms.

Many emotions are present as I write these lines, tears well up in my eyes because somehow I feel that I miss him more than he misses me.

He feels that he has grown up, but I don't notice much difference during these years, he is still my child and there is no argument about that.

What does it matter if 5 or 20, they are just a number in this unusual universe and as part of the "Great Cycle of Life", I still remember his anguished face when his first tooth fell out and the excitement that shone in his eyes when the next day the Tooth Fairy had left something for him.

I remember when he was a little boy in preschool he used to tell me not to let go of his hand because he could be stolen and I never forget when I arrived at high school and he let go of my hand quickly so they wouldn't make fun of him, that left me stunned.

I still remember when I was in sixth grade I bought him a McQueen Lightning bag in the shape of a car, he loved it, at first he didn't want to take it because he said he would be made fun of, and then he told me excitedly that his classmates had liked it and that they also wanted their moms to buy him one and he had it until it became unusable.

He has grown up, so have I, several moons have passed since I had him in my arms for the first time, white and with his eyes slanted like "Mr. Miyagi", but it is difficult to understand that he no longer needs me as before, he already has friends, he walks alone, he no longer asks me what to do, nor does he pay much attention to me and deep down that hurts me, maybe I am territorial and overprotective and that is why I feel sad.

I want to free him from bad moments and bad experiences, but my reach has already ended in a certain way, it is now 20 years old, he no longer needs a bedtime story nor is he impressed with my invented stories that he liked so much.

There are no more school reunions or anything from those days, I confess that I miss those times when he used to wait for me at school and when we used to walk hand in hand.

Time keeps running and it goes fast, he already lives in another city and I can't protect him, not like before, that's why I pray to God for him, his reach is extraordinary, that's why I beg him to keep him in all his ways, the clock doesn't stop ticking and here I am, with that confusion full of emotions that perhaps all mothers go through when their birds open their wings and fly through a splendorous blue sky where there is a beautiful view, but where there are also imminent dangers and that's what really scares me.

Life goes on and he keeps growing and deciding what he wants for his life, he no longer listens to me, because these are his decisions, I only pray to God that they are the right ones, I will always be here even when my hair turns white and wrinkles are marked on my face.

I don't care about the number, I care about the reality and even if time goes by he will be my son and I will always be his mom.
