During my trip to Cappadocia I had the opportunity to visit Selime Monastery, a spectacular site located at the northern end of the Ihlara Valley, about 28 km from Aksaray. This monastery complex, carved directly into the volcanic rock, is the largest in the region and offers a fascinating insight into the religious and architectural history of Cappadocia.
The first full day of my southwestern US trip was devoted to Zion National Park, Utah. Thanks to my workmate, we got a permit to scale the iconic Angels Landing rock. In the second half of the day, we hiked to Emerald Pools.
Another beautiful sky behind the Safari Explorer, my home for the next four weeks. I like the way the colors reflect off the window. A few days ago I flew into Anchorage and drove down to meet my expedition cruise ship near Seward, Alaska. We spent a few days in the JAG shipyard, getting the boat all ready for our big Alaska season. We are running seven day trips into Prince William Sound, and ten day trips past Kodiak and Katmai, all the way to Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands. Both of these trips will be starting in the picturesque coastal town of Seward, Alaska.
