We recently visited the Basarbovo Monastery with my partner, our little daughter, and my mother. From the moment we arrived, we could feel the peaceful atmosphere that surrounds this remarkable place. Nestled among the rocks and surrounded by nature, it feels like the hustle and bustle of everyday life simply fades away.
We climbed the stone steps leading to the monastery and were amazed to see the church and the monks' cells carved directly into the cliff. The view over the valley is beautiful, and the silence makes the whole experience even more special.
We learned that Basarbovo Monastery is the only active rock monastery in Bulgaria. It is dedicated to Saint Dimitar Basarbovski, a revered Orthodox saint honored by both Bulgarians and Romanians.
For us, this was much more than just another family trip. It was a place that left us with wonderful memories and a sense of calm that is hard to describe. If you ever find yourself near the city of Ruse, I truly recommend taking the time to visit Basarbovo Monastery. Whether you're interested in history, breathtaking scenery, or simply looking for a peaceful escape, it's a place that is sure to leave a lasting impression.
