Today I would like to share one of the most interesting books I have found while exploring my personal library.
At first glance, Witness for the Prosecution may seem like just another collection of detective stories.
But after opening its pages, I realized it is something much more valuable.
It is an opportunity to meet some of the greatest masters of crime fiction gathered in a single volume.
Unlike a novel, where we follow one author from beginning to end, an anthology allows us to experience many different voices, styles, and ways of building suspense.
Every story becomes a new journey.
Every author presents a different vision of crime, mystery, and human nature.
The edition I have is a Cuban publication by Arte y Literatura, released in 1980.
The collection was compiled by Agenor Martí, edited by Omelio Ramos Mesero, with cover art by Ernesto Joan.
Even before reading the first page, this edition already feels like a small piece of literary history.
What impressed me most is the extraordinary list of authors included:

Reading this book is like walking through a museum dedicated to mystery literature.
Each author approaches suspense differently.
Some rely on logical deduction.
Others explore psychology.
Some build impossible crimes.
Others reveal how ordinary people can become part of extraordinary situations.
Together, they demonstrate why detective fiction has fascinated readers for generations.
As is customary, I would like to share a reflection inspired by the spirit of this anthology:
«“Every mystery tells two stories: the one everyone sees... and the one hidden beneath the surface.”»
That thought captures what I enjoyed most while reading this collection.
The real pleasure is not simply discovering who committed the crime.
It is watching how each writer leads the reader through clues, false assumptions, and unexpected revelations.
Reading these stories today is still a rewarding experience.
Technology has changed.
Society has changed.
But curiosity, deception, justice, fear, and ambition remain part of human nature.
That is why these stories continue to feel alive decades after they were written.
As in previous posts, I share photos of my physical copy.
Holding this edition reminds me that books are not only stories.
They are also witnesses to the time in which they were published and to the readers who have kept them alive over the years.

Hoy quiero compartir uno de los libros más interesantes que he encontrado mientras exploraba mi biblioteca personal.
A simple vista, Testigo de cargo puede parecer una recopilación más de relatos policíacos.
Sin embargo, después de abrir sus páginas descubrí que es mucho más que eso.
Es una oportunidad para encontrarse, en un solo volumen, con algunos de los mayores maestros de la literatura de misterio.
A diferencia de una novela, donde seguimos la voz de un único autor, una antología nos permite recorrer estilos muy diferentes.
Cada relato es una experiencia nueva.
Cada escritor propone una forma distinta de construir el suspense, el crimen y la resolución del enigma.
La edición que tengo en mis manos fue publicada por Arte y Literatura en Cuba en 1980.
La recopilación estuvo a cargo de Agenor Martí, la edición fue realizada por Omelio Ramos Mesero y la cubierta es obra de Ernesto Joan.
Solo por su cuidado editorial, este libro ya representa una pequeña pieza de la historia literaria cubana.
Lo que más me impresionó fue la calidad de los autores reunidos en sus páginas:

Pocas antologías logran reunir tantos nombres fundamentales de la narrativa detectivesca.
Leer este libro es como recorrer un museo del género policial.
Cada autor entiende el misterio de una manera distinta.
Algunos apuestan por la deducción lógica.
Otros por la tensión psicológica.
Algunos construyen crímenes aparentemente imposibles.
Otros muestran cómo una persona común puede verse atrapada en circunstancias extraordinarias.
En conjunto, todos demuestran por qué la novela y el cuento policíacos siguen cautivando lectores generación tras generación.
Como es costumbre, quiero compartir una reflexión inspirada en el espíritu de esta antología:
«“Todo misterio cuenta dos historias: la que todos ven... y la que permanece oculta bajo la superficie.”»
Creo que esa idea resume muy bien lo que disfruté durante la lectura.
El verdadero placer no consiste únicamente en descubrir al culpable.
También está en observar cómo cada autor conduce al lector entre pistas, engaños y revelaciones inesperadas.
Leer estos relatos hoy sigue siendo una experiencia muy gratificante.
La tecnología ha cambiado.
La sociedad también.
Pero la curiosidad, el engaño, la justicia, el miedo y la ambición continúan formando parte de la naturaleza humana.
Por eso estas historias conservan toda su fuerza.
Como en publicaciones anteriores, comparto fotos de mi ejemplar físico.
Tener esta edición entre las manos me recuerda que los libros no solo contienen historias.
También conservan la memoria de la época en que fueron publicados y de los lectores que los han mantenido vivos durante los años.
