We waited for her mother to finish her coffee and some pastries, and the conversation flowed between the three of us like old friends. My romantic plans had changed overnight, but not for the worse, as the girl's mother acted as a kind of cupid between us, and the girl blushed at every compliment her mother paid us as future lovers.

The Blame Game
Bisi felt a surge to defend herself and her reputation, but she held back her emotions, knowing that her boss was also under pressure from the company's CEO and that she was taking out her frustrations on her. So instead, she took a deep breath and apologized for her team's failure.

The School Notebook
“Jossy!” His voice was bright, warm, familiar. “You remembered me today. How are you?”
I laughed nervously. “I was cleaning my room and guess what I found today? … My old school notebook. And in it, I wrote a list about my ‘dream husband.’
“Oh really?” Tony teased. “Let me guess. He must be a prince with a shiny horse?”

laughed; “I don't think I can win something like that."
He smiled, "You think too small. Haven't you heard the saying? Some things are written in the stars. You don't fight the stars. You just follow them."

My story is written in the stars
"… Your story is written up there, can't you see?" I heard Grandma say. I blamed exhaustion for the hearing lapse.
One evening, weary from the day, I climbed to the last floor of the hostel. The air was thick, the city buzzing below as I lifted up my eyes to the sky.
It was then I saw it. One lone star, faint but it was there, shining through the haze.

The Weight of Small Things
“People are always in a rush,” she said.
“Not everyone,” I said. I thought of it for a second and realised people were actually in a rush all the time.
She tilted her head. “You notice that everyone is in a rush. You notice the small things.”
“I notice what I notice,” I said, not really meaning anything.

The Province of the Mind
She also seemed to have gotten the hang of my formal approach and adjusted her speech to match my matter-of-factness technical language. It no longer felt as if I was a researcher and she a participant, but we were collaborators in this endeavor. By the end of the experiment, we both looked at each other with a sense of achievement.
"Phew!" she said. "That was intense!"
