Anthony slowly opened the gate, while his eyes caught the presence of a blue sedan parked right between the trash can and the gate of the house. His gaze at the unfamiliar car was flat, but his head was full of question marks, and as usual when he sensed that some trouble was coming his way, he took a deep breath before opening the door to the house. -

The days passed without any different news, Noah communicated with me by messages, notifying me that he was fine and would not be back until the weekend. My work days were saturated with numbers until they haunted me in my sleep. When Friday arrived, the air I breathed as I left the place was a pure wind, infectious with energy, like a breath to the spirit. -

He ran out to the entrance of his house and although the doorknob was a few inches away, his hand could not reach it, as if time was slowing him down. -

Are you going to go with our baby? Are you leaving her with her grandma? How am I going to cope without you here? Who is going to take care of the house? Are you…" Jose went on listing his fears while pacing up and down the living room now. -

Sometime during my musings, I pick up my phone and scroll way down in my chats to find those people. We have barely exchanged any words in ten years. We still know how the other is doing but the magical spell is broken.

While Giovanni is at the battle front, Anna graduates as a teacher. From time to time she hears from her fiancé. A high general of the army sends her the letters that Giovanni writes daily. That is how her fiancé keeps the flame of her love alive. -
