There is this friend of mine, amazing lad. He recently showed me this incredible act of kindness, which melted my heart. So normally, you'd think "Well it's a normal act of kindness, what's new" but there is so much more to it than that. He reminds me of why kindness is the right way, and ever since then I have never looked back. He shows me why showing someone the light is a better way to teach someone than forcing them out of their darkness to see the light.
Years ago when I was in the university, I was a huge asshole. The hugest. I always cringe whenever I think back to my university days and all the characteristics and traits I had in me and exhibited. So I usually stay in the boy's school hostel. It's usually cheaper and safer because of the high number of boys. I stayed with the other of my coursemate, he was my roommate. When I resumed school for the new semester, I resumed earlier than him and this other friend of mine had to plead if he could stay with me pending the time he sorted out his accommodation. I wasn't that much of an asshole so I obliged. But I always grumbled. I hated that he was all in my space, I hated that he wouldn't leave, and I hated that he even ate my groceries, one I got from the house. So much so that I had to call my original roommate whining about it. He overheard and caught me, and I felt like an idiot that day. But this friend of mine never held it against me. Whenever I ran to him for aid, he always shows up and worse, he never asks for payback. Every day he teaches me the true meaning of kindness. One time I tried to support some homeless people on the street with lunch and he supported my plight, sending me resources and trusting me to do the right thing. He has a heart of gold. Obviously, I am not that asshole anymore, trust me. Those days are behind me, lol. Moral lesson: be kind to people, you could touch/change their lives.
