Kindness is one thing that our world very much needs. With all the chaos, pain, strife, bitterness and hate burning across the world and humanity, a small act, just a little act of kindness can make a difference. Indeed, it has been shown through testimonies or stories of people that kindness makes a great difference and can go on to impact a person's life forever. That's one more thing about this act for me; it inspires others to be kind as well.
What it took to change some people's lives and also their perspective about life was a small act of kindness. Well, maybe we label some acts of kindness as small, but none of it is small. No matter the small effort in the name of kindness extended to another, it costs them something to do so. Perhaps, that's why it touches people's hearts when they're on the receiving end of these acts. It's not just an act, it's also a communication to them that they matter.
Kindness can come in different ways; it could be encouraging words, opportunities, provision, protection, hospitality, and so on. I think it's safe to say that we owe one another the duty to be kind to each other. Kindness shouldn't come with an expected return. It should be selfless and in love, because we know that someone needs it and we're probably their best option or even their last hope. We need to see it that way as we have the privilege.
It irks me to see how selfish, heartless and inhumane people have become. What's pathetic is when people take kindness to be weakness, especially from those who don't show kindness to others. It's a wrong perception, or an ideal to hold on to. I understand when the needy can be cocky and crafty, that's another case. But more than that, kindness is something our world needs and a quality every human being should imbibe for the sake of humanity.
I've been privileged to receive some acts of kindness. I remember a time I had issues with my accommodation in school. Luckily, I had a friend who had his own place and could host me for some time. He didn't hesitate, and even when I went beyond the time I was supposed to stay there due to unforeseen circumstances, he was understanding. I still remember this and I always appreciate his kindness, hoping I don't fail him when he needs my help too.
Kind gestures might not seem like a big deal to some people, but it is. Though it's encouraged to show kindness, you're not entitled to it. That's why there are people who aren't kind. But I take it as a duty to show kindness to everyone that I can, within my capacity and resources. And this week, I didn't have a special plan about that. But as I went through my week, and now the weekend, I have it, as always to show kindness to all, especially the needy and vulnerable.
