I just finished a 7.171km running that lasted about 0hh:40mm:42ss !

I thought it was about time I did another 5km test of my fitness. The route I have mapped out up and around Fairfield Park is quite a tough one as it has a climb of over 30m from the start to the highest point. I took a gentle jog up to the start by the gateway at the bottom of West Drive and then tried to prepare myself.

I probably started too quick, but the hill soon slowed me down. I do feel I had a bit more in my legs than on previous attempts and was still going well when I reached the top of that part. Then there is a dip with a shorter climb beyond. There are a few little jumps over some bike barriers and a small fence to make it interesting. When I reached the half way point where I turn around I was not feeling too bad, but getting over the hump on the way back is always tough. Eventually I was on the long downhill. I had not been looking at my watch, but the audio updates made it sound fairly good. I gave it all I could on the last stretch and then walked part of the way home.

According to Strava I got personal records for one and two miles. It was my second best 5km though. It reckons I was about four seconds quicker at Great Denham parkrun when I missed the start and had to overtake most of the field. I think if I had that sort of event again with lots of people and a flat course I could be a fair bit quicker.

I have logged my time on the local parkrun. I can see others are keeping up their running. I would expect lot of PBs when they start up again, but I doubt that will be this year.

I managed to miss the rain this morning. We have had quite a bit over the last couple of days, but then it is cooler too. It got too hot for us in the week.

Have a great weekend. Run free and stay well.
