During my conversation with @pennsif yesterday he was saying there were very few people in Wales posting despite his efforts to build the community. I have used the #wales tag, but there are hardly any other posts with it.
He built a list of all the known UK Steemians that got to over 100. For a country of 60 million that is not too impressive.
If we could get specific communities moving to Steem it could make a big difference. If a few thousand Welsh speakers started using it they could have a reasonable economy. It needs the right people to get on board and kick things off.
There are a few things that could put them off. There are the powerful bullies who attack users on a whim. The state of the trending page does not help either, but there is little sign of a will to change that. Steemit could change the algorithm to lessen the influence of vote sellers. Seeing the sort of people who feature on the front page os 3speak can all be off-putting. I know they are about freedom of speech, but first impressions matter and the 'demonetised' are a tiny minority.
I still hold out hope for Steem having a future, but it gets harder to keep that up. The price is not that important to me, but it is to many others. They have to think about whether it is worth their time.
