Some years ago I set up a music session at my local pub that has grown into a cool community of musicians of all levels. Danielle is a clarinetist who came along and we started playing together. We have played at lots of open mic nights and a couple of small local events, but this coming weekend we have our first 'proper' gig at Baldock's free Balstock Festival. This is not far from where I live, but I must confess I have not been before.
We are playing at The George pub at 8pm on Saturday as Swing 47. That is a pretty good slot as there should be lots of people around, but then there are lots of other venues with all sorts of music. I am hoping a few friends will come along and Steemians are welcome too. 
Here is a sample of what we play. We tend to go for old jazz tunes, but we mix in some more modern pieces. You will even get to hear me sing!
I am currently preparing for the gig. We will have another rehearsal and I have all my music ready. I have not memorised all the songs. I have generally used printed sheets, but Danielle started using a tablet and so I had to look into that. I have had an old Nexus 7 for years, but had not been using it. We are using an app called Fakebook Pro. It comes with hundreds of songs and you can easily add your own as Google documents, PDF or just enter then yourself. Doing a chord chart is really simple. I am still learning it and have not worked out how to add lyrics yet.
I know technology can fail, so I will be taking printed versions as a backup.
I am exciting about the gig, but a little nervous. It will probably go really quickly once we start.
