A very important secret that leads to a more peaceful, successful, and productive life is learning to mind your business. That is, stop watching others, and start building your own self. In the world we live in at the moment, it has become evident that people have opinions about someone else. Being able to focus on yourself in this era is a powerful form of wisdom. What someone does should not become a standard for you or set the pace for your own life. The time which someone uses to watch others can be used to build and develop themselves to become better.

Imagine two friends who graduated from the same faculty in university. The first one got a job in a private company as a junior software developer immediately, which paid him pretty good, while the other young man was still in search of a job. Instead of focusing on improving his skills and applying for job opportunities, he spent his whole time watching his friend's life. He would check all his social media posts, monitor his life, wonder how he got the job, think about how much they are paying him, and then feels jealous each time he achieves something significant. This might make him not to improve his life because he is busy minding someone else's business, not his own business.
You have to learn to focus on your own journey. Someone's success does not mean that you are a failure. There are things about you that you do not even know yet, so why do you want to know someone else's life? You have to understand that minding your business does not mean that you should ignore others, nor stop caring for them, neither does it mean that you should not identify with the struggles of others. That you are to mind your business is not a call for selfishness. It is simply knowing what deserves your attention and what does not deserve your attention. That is, not wasting your energy, resources, and time on what does not add any value into your life.
You will be surprised that some people know everything about what others are doing and the things happening around them, yet they know very little about what is happening around their own life. What they fail to understand is that they cannot effectively build their life if they are constantly being distracted by someone else's journey. The more you are being distracted by the people pursuing after their dreams, the more your own dreams will stand still. The truth is that if you do not focus on yourself and on building your dreams, you will be distracted by just anything. Someone else may have achieved their own goal, but you have to understand that their journey is not your own. Someone running a sprint will get to the finish line faster than someone running a marathon, but it does not mean that the person running the marathon is wasting their time.
What you should know is than the people you may be comparing your life with, you may not know everything that they have been through, the sacrifices and the struggles. More so, you do not know what their future holds for them. Your own responsibility is to focus on what you have within you and make the most out of it. By minding your own business, you tend to give yourself the opportunity to express itself the more, and you will grow more. You have something right within you that can make you to stand out, but you can only discover it when you look inwards.

It is worthy to note that when you mind your business, you will save yourself from a lot of stress. More so, you will avoid unnecessary arguments. You have to know that not everything deserves your attention. You must not respond to everything or retaliate to everything. Sometimes you just have to favour your peace over the need to prove a point. More often than not, silence can protect your peace and your sanity in ways that you may not even realise. There is actually a tremendous amount of power and control that comes by keeping some things private.
