A few weeks back, I listened to a motivational speaker, and one of his statements caught my attention. He said "you have only this life to live, make it count." One of the biggest mistakes that anyone can make is to live like they have an unlimited amount of time to spend on earth. This will make them to keep postponing what they would have done, delaying important decisions, not taking advantage of opportunities, and keep making excuses. They believe that one day, everything will fall into place, without realising that time is already ticking. You have to understand that each day that passes will become part of your history, and you will not get to re-live it. So make it count.

Most times, the major problem facing people is not that they lack opportunities, but that they keep treating life as though the supply of time is infinite and endless. Imagine saying that you will do something tomorrow, and then when tomorrow comes, you will still convince yourself that you will do it the next day. That is how a lot of people have delayed the fulfillment of their dreams. Everyone has a dream of what they want to achieve, but not everyone can confidently tell themselves that they have fulfilled their dream. What makes the difference is the prompt actions you put in place. You have to understand that your dreams will not automatically become a reality simply because you have dreamt it. Rather they require commitment, action, consistency, and sacrifices.

In addition to taking time seriously, you also need to take your responsibilities seriously. You need to understand that growing up is not just a function of adding age, but it is about taking the responsibility for your actions, your decisions, and the consequences of them. Do not blame anyone or something else for the condition of your life. It is true that there are situations that may be beyond your direct control, but you still have to take responsibility for how you respond to them. You may not be able to control everything, but you can definitely control many of your choices. Take responsibility for your mistakes, learn the lessons that they teach, and then use them to make better decisions that will bring benefit to your life.

You also need to take the relationship you have with people seriously. You have to learn to recognise the value of people. No matter how independent you may be, the truth remains that you will still need other people. More so, learn to appreciate the people who genuinely care about you. Respect the friends that you have. Create time for your family, keep to your words, and then treat people with kindness and respect. At the same time, you also need to be careful who you allow into personal space. This is because the people around you and your friends can influence the way you think, the way you act, your decisions, your choices, and then a whole lot of other things about people. This is why you have to build good and meaningful relationships, especially with the people who will encourage you to grow, and who care about you.

It is also worthy to note that you should not get too comfortable with your current situation that you stop improving on yourself. So keep learning, keep improving, keep developing yourself, learn new skills, strengthen your character, and then correct your weakness. The world will not wait for you to be ready, and opportunities will not wait for you to get ready. Opportunities will definitely favour the people who are prepared for them. Everyday you live will present you with the chance to make meaningful progress, you have to make it count. You may not need to achieve everything at once, and you may not arrive at the destination immediately, but each step you take will count, and will keep driving you towards the finish line.

Your life is not a rehearsal, so you must make every moment to count. You have only this life to live, so do not live as if it is limitless. Understand that it is not necessarily how many years you have lived that will matter at the end, but what will matter is how meaningfully well your life was lived.
