Our favorite Christmas tradition at home has always been the Christmas dinner, and even though in the last few years there are not many people at the table, it is still a unique and special moment with the family.

Hello #motherhood friends, today I want to share with you a little bit of what our Christmas night at home was like! It is usually a very busy day and although I always try not to be busy that day the truth is that it is mission impossible, so early on Saturday we were finishing things for our dinner.
We started the day with the preparation of the black cake and the chicken salad and for the afternoon my husband would be in charge of the ham bread, since the hallacas luckily were ready since the day before and that is what gives us more work, so we had a good part ahead.
As we usually do at home we divided the tasks and while my husband was preparing the cake I was in charge of the cleaning and organizing things for the table, making the hairstyle that Miranda would wear and I even had time to make some clothes for Miranda and me, all this thanks to the fact that my mom forgot to buy the breast for the salad and instead of stressing as it usually happens I got to work on something else.
Hola amigos de #motherhood, hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un poquito de lo que fue nuestra noche de Navidad en casa! Generalmente es un día bien movido y aunque siempre trato de no estar atareada ese día la verdad que es misión imposible, así que el sábado desde temprano estuvimos terminando cosas para nuestra cena.
Iniciamos el día con la preparación de la torta negra y la ensalada de pollo y para la tarde mi esposo se encargaría del pan de jamón, ya que las hallacas por suerte estaban listas desde el día anterior y eso es lo que nos da más trabajo, así que teníamos buena parte adelantada.
Como solemos hacer en casa nos repartimos las tareas y mientras mi esposo preparaba la torta yo me encargaba de la limpieza y organizar las cosas para la mesa, hacer el peinado que llevaría Miranda y hasta tiempo me dió de elaborar unas prendas para Miranda y para mí, todo ésto gracias a que mi mamá olvidó comprar la pechuga para la ensalada y en lugar de estresarme como suele suceder puse manos a la obra en otra cosa.
Before noon my husband went to get the chicken, so as soon as he arrived I started preparing the salad and as we were a bit busy our lunch, to the happiness of my children, was some delicious homemade hot dogs.
Without much time to rest we continued with the preparations for dinner and the next thing to do was to prepare the ham bread and decorate the black cake that was ready to be iced.
All the while we were running around, the children were circling the Christmas tree every now and then counting the hours to open their presents. If it was up to them they would have opened them a week earlier and I confess that for me too, but my husband wanted them to wait until the 24th at night and so we did and they were a little "electric " since dawn begging for the hours to pass in a hurry.
Antes de medio día mi esposo fue por el pollo, así que en cuanto llegó me dediqué a la preparación de la ensalada y como estábamos medio ajetreados nuestro almuerzo, para felicidad de mis hijos fueron unos perros calientes caseritos y bien ricos.
Sin mucho tiempo para descansar continuamos con los preparativos para la cena y lo próximo que seguía era preparar el pan de jamón y decorar la torta negra que ya estaba lista para ser glaseada.
A todas éstas mientras nosotros corríamos de un lado a otro los niños daban vueltas al árbol Navidad cada tanto contando las horas para abrir sus regalos. Si de ellos dependiera los hubiesen abierto una semana antes y les confieso que por mi también, pero mi esposo quiso que esperaran hasta el 24 en la noche y así lo hicimos por lo que estaban algo "eléctricos" desde que amaneció rogando que las horas pasaran de prisa.
Finally all the food was ready around six in the evening, which was pretty fast considering we had quite a lot of things to do that day, maybe it was a little bit of Christmas magic, so I was happy to be able to get dressed in time and with no runners because with Miranda's hair already done since early in the morning I wasn't supposed to take care of her but of me.
And when we were ready for dinner the children's insistence on opening their presents paid off and we allowed them to do so before sitting down to share the meal.
For them of course it was the best moment of the night especially because they received just what they were wishing for. For Miranda we chose some unicorn headphones with pop it, some canvases to paint on, a play doh baking kit and some gifts from her brother.
On the other hand, for Matias we bought wireless headphones, a horn with Bluetooth connection, a perfume and shower gel kit and Miranda's gifts.
One of the things I love most about the night of the 24th is the excitement with which they open their presents and the expectation of what they are going to receive, even though they probably already suspected what it would be because they have been giving clues since November!
Finalmente toda la comida estuvo lista cerca de las seis de la tarde, lo que fue bastante rápido tomando en cuenta que teníamos bastante cosas por hacer ese día, quizá fue un poquito de magia navideña, así que estaba feliz de poder vestirme con tiempo y sin correderas porque con Miranda ya peinada desde temprano no debía encargarme de ella sino de mi.
Y cuando estábamos listos para cenar la insistencia de los niños en abrir sus regalos rindió sus frutos y permitimos que lo hicieran antes de sentarnos a compartir la comida.
Para ellos por supuesto fue el mejor momento de la noche sobre todo porque recibieron justo lo que estaban deseando. Pata Miranda escogimos unos audífonos de unicornio con pop it, unos lienzos para pintar, un kit de play doh repostero y unos detalles de parte de su hermano.
Por otro lado para Matías compramos unos audífonos inalambricos, una corneta con conexión Bluetooth, un kit de perfume y gel de baño y los regalitos de parte de Miranda.
Una de las cosas que más amo de la noche del 24 es la emoción con la que abren sus regalos y la expectativa de qué será lo que van a recibir aunque seguramente ya sospechaban qué sería porque se la pasan dando pistas desde noviembre!!
After the respective pictures we finally sat down at the table to thank God for the food and the blessing of being together and healthy. For all the care and for being able to share another Christmas together as a family.
The food as always was delicious, but I must say that the star of the night was my husband's ham bread this year, which besides being much better than in previous years, aesthetically it was beautiful and the touch of smoked goat cream cheese gave it a really delicious touch.
This year I didn't want to make pernil and although I was tempted to bake a pork loin or chicken, I really didn't want to complicate things this year, in fact for dessert we only had the black cake when in previous years I have prepared about three more desserts, but we decided to focus on enjoying the time without so much stress and it ended up being a great decision. We ate super yummy without all the tiredness of previous years and finally after tidying up a bit we went to my in-laws house.
Luego de las fotografías respectivas al fin nos sentamos en la mesa para agradecer a Dios por los alimentos y la bendición de estar juntos y con salud. Por todos los cuidados y poder compartir una nueva Navidad juntos en familia.
La comida como siempre estuvo deliciosa, pero debo decir que la estrella de la noche fue el pan de jamón de mi esposo de este año, que además de quedarle mucho mejor que los años anteriores, estéticamente quedó bellisimo y el toque de queso crema de cabrá ahumado le dió un toque realmente delicioso.
Este año no quise hacer pernil y aunque estuve tentada a hornear un lomo de cerdo o pollo, la verdad no quise complicarme este año, de hecho de postre sólo tuvimos la torta negra cuando en años anteriores he preparado unos tres postres más, pero decidimos enfocarnos en disfrutar del tiempo sin tanto estrés y terminó siendo una gran decisión. Comimos súper rico sin todo el cansancio de años anteriores y finalmente después de ordenar un poco nos fuimos a casa de mis suegros.
