A few days ago, while walking around Vedado, I stopped by Coppelia to have some ice cream. For decades, this place has been an almost mandatory stop for Havana residents 鈥攁 spot to cool off and meet up with family and friends. Nowadays, it doesn鈥檛 have the same variety of flavors it once had, but it鈥檚 still a popular destination for both the young and the not-so-young.
Anyway, I decided to take a few photos of the place, but after barely five shots, one of the workers came rushing toward me to tell me that photography wasn鈥檛 allowed. I honestly didn鈥檛 understand why, especially since dozens of people were taking pictures with their phones all around me. Still, without arguing or getting upset, I simply walked out through another door and ended up enjoying my ice cream at a nearby private caf茅 鈥攚here, by the way, they were delighted that I was taking photos there.
Here are the few images I managed to capture inside Coppelia. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.
Hace unos d铆as, paseando por el Vedado, entr茅 al Coppelia a tomar un helado. Este lugar ha sido por d茅cadas un punto de encuentro casi obligatorio para los habaneros, ideal para refrescarse y reunirse con familiares y amigos. Hoy ya no tiene la variedad de sabores que ofrec铆a anta帽o, pero aun as铆 sigue siendo un destino recurrente entre los j贸venes y no tan j贸venes.
En fin, me dispuse a hacer una peque帽a sesi贸n fotogr谩fica, pero sin haber tomado ni cinco fotos una trabajadora del lugar se me acerc贸 casi corriendo para decirme que no pod铆a hacer fotos. No entend铆 muy bien por qu茅, sobre todo cuando decenas de personas estaban haciendo lo mismo con sus m贸viles. Pero bueno, sin 谩nimo de discutir ni de molestarme, simplemente sal铆 por otra puerta y termin茅 disfrutando mi helado en un negocio privado a un par de cuadras, donde por cierto estuvieron encantados de que hiciera fotos all铆.
