Greetings, fellow Hivers.
In the early days of photography, there were many detractors, some of them highly credible and respected voices. I suppose this is normal when a new movement threatens to replace existing ones and those affected begin to feel at risk. Something similar is happening today with artificial intelligence.
Painting, and portrait painters in particular, practically lost their jobs when photography became established. Perhaps as a response, a superstition took deep root, one that is still talked about today: the idea that photography stole the soul of the person being photographed.
Some religions even avoided photographs out of fear of this belief. The truth is, I think a photograph can sometimes capture the essence of a person. And the more spontaneous the portrait, the easier it is to feel that a little piece of their soul has been reflected on paper.
I still believe in those stolen souls. And I hope more and more people learn how to capture them.

En los inicios de la fotograf铆a hubo muchos detractores, algunos con bastante credibilidad y opiniones de peso. Supongo que es algo normal cuando una corriente novedosa amenaza con imponerse sobre las existentes y estas se sienten en riesgo. Algo similar a lo que est谩 ocurriendo hoy con la inteligencia artificial.
La pintura, y en especial los retratistas, pr谩cticamente perdieron su trabajo cuando la fotograf铆a se impuso. Quiz谩s como respuesta, una superstici贸n termin贸 arraig谩ndose profundamente, tanto que todav铆a hoy se habla de ella: la fotograf铆a le robaba el alma al modelo.
Incluso algunas religiones evitaban las fotograf铆as por temor a esa idea. Lo cierto es que pienso que, en ocasiones, una fotograf铆a s铆 logra captar la esencia de una persona. Y mientras m谩s espont谩neo es el retrato, m谩s f谩cil resulta sentir que algo de su alma ha quedado reflejado en el papel.
Yo sigo apostando por esas almas robadas. Y espero que cada vez m谩s personas logren atraparlas.
