Many species of birds arrive in Cuba for the fall migration, but one stands out from the rest—both because of its very unusual name and because it’s so difficult to photograph: the Black-and-White Warbler.

Son muchas las especies de aves que llegan a Cuba para la migración otoñal, pero de todas hay una que resalta, con un nombre muy peculiar y por lo complejo que se hace tomarle una fotografía: es la Black and White Warbler.

I have to tell you that from the very first moment I saw it, I fell in love; it was love at first sight.

Les comento que desde el primer momento que la vi quedé enamorado; fue amor a primera vista.

But don’t be fooled—they’re very difficult to photograph, since they feed on small insects on tree trunks, climbing all over them.

Pero no se dejen engañar, son muy complicadas para fotografiar, dado que se alimentan de pequeños insectos en los troncos de los árboles; van trepando alrededor de ellos.

And they circle around and around, nonstop, as if in a feeding frenzy. Imagine trying to focus on something like that—it’s crazy.

Y dan vueltas y vueltas, sin parar, algo así como en frenesí alimenticio. Imagínense enfocar algo así, una locura.

That’s when, for a few brief seconds, it stops—I don’t know if to rest or because it feels sorry for the poor photographer who’s been chasing it for a while. That’s when I take the opportunity to snap the photo.

Es entonces cuando, por breves segundos, se detiene; no sé si a descansar o porque le da lástima con el pobre fotógrafo que lleva tiempo detrás de ella. Allí aprovecho para hacerle la foto.

There are many warblers that keep us company during these months, but this one will always be one of my favorites. That’s why I wanted to share these images with you so you can get to know it.

Son muchas las Warbler que nos acompañan estos meses, pero siempre será esta una de mis preferidas. Por eso he querido traerles estas imágenes para que la conozcan.
