Poetry asks do you know the rules of the language before spilling out the window on the street.
Poetry wants you to know all the correct words and erase the rest.
Poetry is a dance: you and your reader. You guide, but the magic is in how they follow.
Poetry is about sound and silence as much as words and phrases.
The poem is what remains.

To write poetry: Read poems.
Write very bad poetry.
Learn all about poetry, meter, rhythm, intonation and alliteration - and write truly awesome poetry.
Imitate great forms and great poets and write horrifying poetry with bloody eyes.
Experiment with rhyme and rhythm and meter and write reasonably stilted poetry.
Start bouncing off the rules and possibly writing passive poetry.
Toss a few more and write what's sure to be a good poem.
Keep going until you find your voice playing like a child between words and writing teen poems.
Keep going until your voice becomes strong and proud, until the rules that really matter to you are in your blood and not in your head, until every word you choose inevitably follows from the last. Well, each line break is a powerful pause and it sounds - above all - like you. Then you will write poetry.

Moonlight

a dog in the desert

a still moonlit night
the moon casts its moonlight
on different forms of life
peace is awesome
In it, a parody of peace
a little ray of it
darkens
And yawning with life pierces a den
then goes away
Like knowing life, the dust turns around and covers the long guard
but can never look in stunned amazement
of beauty and hope
will it float in the air
Will it rise in a tribute to the bubble of care
peace is getting so heavy this evening
with cloying sweetness
just in memory
able to bring me back to that calm moonlit night.
