How I long to write a poem! I've joined a poetry reading/writing group. We only meet once a month. You'd think one month would be plenty of time to write a little poem, but, alas, it is also food-preserving month in the northeast USA, and my time is very limited for such things as galavanting through my imagination and churning out poems.

I know what the poem I long to write would be, though. It would be along the lines of a few other very short poems I have already written, which I will add to this post after the eggtimer goes off. Amusing, I hope. Telling, too. All about the nuts and bolts, the nitty gritty, the little unbearables, of a marriage.

It would start something like, or at least contain.

I thought of you
and then I noticed the stone in my shoe

Something like that.

It would be of medium length.

It would have increasingly annoying stanzas

until

at the very end

that stone in the shoe becomes unbearable

and out goes the shoe.

This is my entry to mariannewest@mariannewest's daily freewrite challenge. Today's prompt is write a poem.

Here are two of the poems I have already written on this subject:

If I could, I would
take away your pain
and ball it up like snow
until it hardened into ice
and then I...
would throw it at you,
dear,
and shut you up.

What would I give
to end your pain?

A bullet!

The last time I saw you
was like being in a beautiful garden
and stepping on a hidden
wrong side up
hoe
