After spending tens of years observing people and being one myself, I have come to understand one major concept the desire of each person to be understood. One wants others to know what one has said or done and what has prompted them to say or do this and why exactly they have chosen the particular way of reacting that one has chosen. The misinterpretation of our own intentions may hurt for a rather long time after it has occurred.

Meanwhile, if we are the ones who have misinterpreted somebody else as it seems that we rarely stop to consider the situation from their point of view for long

One has done such and such, and it is already too late and one thinks that this person is rude, selfish, unkind, etc. One sees what the other wants us to see and tries to see but do we see the whole truth? Unfortunately we rarely do.

I believe that people are often quick to judge actions of others, as if those actions were the sole reflection of the persons personalities while they are far from it.

It might be the case that one is mad at you for your behavior but she or he is mad at you in particular due to the effect that you have on them and their routine. People that appear cold and indifferent might have other issues that they are trying to deal with. Of course this is not to justify everything but it is important to differentiate between peoples actions and personalities. There is a thin line between judging actions and judging personalities which one ought to be able to discern.

I think both sides of the same coin are rather evident. One knows what one wants others to know about them because one has chosen a certain course of action.

This choice has been prompted by ones own intentions and reasons. Hence one knows what one wants others to attribute to oneself. At the same time, one is often quick to judge what other people have said or done because one has seen their actions without asking any clarifying questions. The problem seems to be that we want the other side to be as understanding of us as we are of them.

Perhaps it is only a matter of time because understanding may be quick while judging always takes longer. If one judges others for their actions, one is to be judged for ones actions as well. If you are ready to judge then you must be ready to understand. So that if one is given to hasty judgment one should be given to hasty understanding. I know that I am far too old to judge men for their acts. I have learned by experience that each one of us is a deep mystery which may not be deciphered. However before jumping to conclusion regarding people’s personalities it seems right to give them a chance to explain. Perhaps if we stop worrying about be understood and start understanding instead our lives would change for the better.
