English version
I'm back with a different breakfast. I wanted to try a different texture for my arepas, so I decided to make them with wheat flour, but not conventional flour, rather self-rising flour, and I also added yeast and rolled oats. It was a spectacular combination that brightened up my morning. Today I will share this recipe with you. Although there is the option of baking these arepas, I decided to cook them on the budare, which gave them a crispy outer layer, just the way I like them.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup water
- 150 grams self-rising wheat flour
- 50 grams rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- Salt to taste
- Oil
- Egg and turkey ham as accompaniments
Procedure:
I put half a cup of water in a pot and heated it until it was warm.
I removed it from the heat and poured the water into a bowl, adding the yeast, salt, and a tablespoon of oil. I gradually added the wheat flour and kneaded until I had a smooth, even mixture.
When it completely came away from my hands, it was a sign that the dough was ready. At this point, I added the rolled oats and kneaded again. I left it to rest for half an hour in the oven, a dark place, so that the dough would increase in volume.
Then, I oiled the surface of the griddle and set the temperature to medium heat. Once the dough was ready, I formed my two arepas. This wasn't so easy, given that the mixture is elastic, but I did my best to make them round. I think I succeeded, at least from my point of view 馃槀.
I put a lid on for even cooking. I loved the result; my arepas were fluffy thanks to the yeast. I added a little butter, fried an egg, and looked for some turkey ham. All that was missing was coffee with milk to make this breakfast complete.
