Good evening, blogging friends, I'm back in this wonderful community participating in this week's contest. I've chosen the following theme:
" What popular worldview, quote, or social belief do you think has negatively influenced our society today? How do you protect younger people around you from adopting that mindset, and how do you personally resist the pressure to conform to it? "
For me, one of the mottos, lifestyles, beliefs, and social trends that is ruining today's society is the myth of toxic positivity. What is toxic positivity? It's a social trend, especially emphasized in recent years by social media, information providers, and online gurus, which encourages people to always think positively, suppressing negative emotions, and considering every form of negativity toxic. This thinking is accompanied by many other false myths, such as "if you want you can," "anything is possible," and similar, creating a high-performance society where negativity, sadness, failure, and negative feelings are judged poorly, as if the range of human emotions could be reduced to one of their main mottos: "Only positive vibes" or "Impossible." It's true that it's good to maintain a positive attitude and hope, but it's also true that human beings aren't just positive, and that even negative and dark feelings deserve recognition.
And even the false belief that anything is possible is more harmful than anything else because unfortunately we are not all born with the same resources, fortune, character, and a thousand variations that can lead to failure, which today is seen as an individual fault and not a multifactorial issue.

Buenas noches, amigos blogueros. He elegido el siguiente tema:
In my opinion, the mentality of toxic positivity at all costs and success at all costs is very harmful even for the new generations because it gives them the idea that it's not normal or nice or healthy to express negative feelings and worries, and that problems, instead of dealing with the suffering that is part of life, should be repressed and buried under motivational phrases and slogans. Then there's the idea that everything is possible, which is equally harmful in my opinion because it creates strong expectations with consequent feelings of guilt, a sense of failure, and frustration if expectations are not met. Instead, I believe it's right to learn that we can also fail, that not everything depends on us and our abilities, and that sometimes, unfortunately, things don't go as we dreamed, but that it's not the end of the world and, above all, that our productivity, our ability to perform, be perfect, and always happy isn't our true essence as human beings. That we can be sad, vulnerable, and imperfect because life is like this, not the perfect one portrayed on social media. How do I deal with these pressures? By reflecting a lot, doing therapy and trying not to beat myself up but I fall for it myself as an adult sometimes so I don't dare imagine what effect it has on younger and more malleable minds!
