Good evening, blog friends—how are you all doing? I’m back to share a review of a great thriller I spent my Saturday evening with. The book is titled The Perfect Marriage—though, truth be told, there’s very little that’s "perfect" about this marriage. The story centers on a married couple: Sarah, a top-tier criminal defense attorney, and Adam, a struggling writer in search of inspiration. Despite their differences, the two seem deeply in love; however, Adam is deeply hurt by the fact that Sarah always prioritizes her career over their relationship. In fact, on their tenth wedding anniversary, Adam heads off alone to the lake house they bought to help with his writing. But he isn’t actually alone. The narrative alternates between the perspectives of both husband and wife. As it turns out, Adam is joined at the lake by his mistress, Kelly. They spend a passionate night together while his wife, Sarah, stays late at the office before heading out with her assistant. Adam leaves while Kelly is still asleep—even leaving her a love note—but he begins to have second thoughts about his affair when his wife, Sarah, suddenly asks him if they should have a child. How is he supposed to choose between them now? Things take a turn for the worse the very next morning when two police officers knock on his door and take him to the station—accused of the murder of his mistress, Kelly!

Adam is desperate; he cannot fathom how this could have happened, given that he had left Kelly asleep—though both of them had clearly had too much to drink. Now, he desperately needs a top-tier lawyer, as all the evidence points against him. And who, naturally, is the best lawyer in town? His own wife. Sarah is devastated and shattered, yet she still loves her husband; despite her anger over his infidelity, she cannot bring herself to believe he is capable of murder, so she agrees to take the case. It is a difficult challenge—every piece of evidence seems to incriminate Adam—but Sarah refuses to give up. If not him, then who else could be the culprit? Kelly’s police-officer husband? Her stalker? Someone from her past? Adam, too, tries desperately to prove his innocence by digging into his mistress’s history. Will the couple manage to forgive each other and secure an acquittal for Adam? This is a fantastic, gripping thriller—an engaging blend of crime fiction and legal procedural. It is a truly unpredictable story, written in a simple, fluid style that makes it a pleasure to read!
