Good evening, blog friends—here I am again. These are rather hectic days for me; unfortunately, my husband is unwell. He is dealing with physical health issues—back trouble and a herniated disc—but, more than anything, a toxic work environment has taken a toll on his mental health as well. He is under professional care, but the situation isn't improving; his work-related anxiety is escalating, causing severe panic attacks and the onset of depression. He sleeps a lot and is deeply worried, especially since we have various expenses like everyone else. I hope he starts feeling better soon or manages to change jobs; he actually likes the work itself, despite the grueling shifts. The real problem is the environment and the people—especially those in upper management—who treat their employees like slaves (or worse), shouting at and insulting them. After a while, that kind of situation really wears you down. Anyway, he’ll be staying home for a while now; he’s going to change his treatment plan and look for a therapist to help him cope with this situation. I feel terrible about it because I suffer from anxiety and depression myself, so I know what it’s like. I feel somewhat frustrated that I can’t help him—and, above all, that I don’t have a job that would allow me to support us both. In fact, I don’t have a job at all right now, even though I send out CVs every week. The job market in Italy is bleak for anyone over thirty without a university degree—and often even for those who do have one. Things have only gotten worse under the current government.
So, I’ve had more on my mind than usual these past few days, but I’m trying to stay strong and keep things light and calm at home to support my love. On a brighter note, we saw a stunning sunset on our way back from the doctor’s today; sunsets here are often a bit dull, but today’s had truly beautiful, romantic colors. My husband is resting now with the cats—they always keep us company and lift our spirits—and I’ll make him something tasty for dinner tonight, since good food always helps. I’ll be sure to post the recipe here tomorrow. I’ll also keep you updated on how he’s doing; the doctor advised him not to stay cooped up at home (except during the designated hours), so I hope to convince him to go for at least a few walks in the neighborhood. Talk soon, blog friends.
