ENGLISH VERSION
My Color Plan
I have a friend who is, quite simply, fascinating. I have known her for years and, at this point, I can say that I have witnessed something that borders on the supernatural, and that is her ability to find the positive side of absolutely everything. I am not talking about that toxic positivity that denies pain or tells you not to be sad when life hits you hard, but rather a genuine ability to look at the same gray landscape we all see and distinguish a golden nuance that escapes the rest of us.
Yesterday, for example, she got a flat tire on her bicycle at midday, under a blazing sun, and while I was already making mental calculations of the cost, the lost time, and the accumulated anger, she laughed and told me that at least it had happened here, in the city, and not in the middle of an ugly dirt road where one rarely passes. I hung up the phone with a bittersweet feeling because, on one hand, I admired her, but on the other, I felt a pang of envy that I was not expecting.
I realized that I do not live like that because I usually live in alert mode, with a little inner voice that, at any setback, hurries to say: "See? This is a disaster. Everything gets complicated. What bad luck." It is not that I am a pessimistic person by nature, but I have been trained by life, by the culture of effort, and by a thousand small failures to look first at the crack, the flaw, and what is missing. My friend, on the other hand, looks first at the light that slips through that crack.
So today, once again, I have decided to begin, and I have made a firm, almost solemn resolution while I was having my first coffee of the morning. Today I am going to look at the colorful part that life carries. Not the pretty part, which sometimes does not exist, but the colorful part, the one made of lessons, small hidden gifts, and opportunities disguised as problems.
I started practicing it this very morning when the alarm clock went off earlier than I wanted. My first impulse was the usual one: complaining, laziness, but I stopped and thought: What color is this? The color of a new day, of a body that responds, and of a job that feeds me. It was not magic, and I did not become my friend all at once, but something changed. The complaint stayed halfway, and in its place a small feeling of calm appeared.
It is not about lying to myself, and it is not about saying that everything is fine when it is not. It is about not letting the negative be the only thing I see, because when I only see gray, gray becomes my entire world, and life, even though it is sometimes hard, also has flashes of passionate red, learning yellow, hopeful green. My friend sees them almost without effort; I have to train my eye, like someone learning to distinguish constellations in a night sky.
Today, again, I begin, and I do not know if I will be consistent. I will probably have days when envy returns, when I forget the plan and immerse myself in complaining, but for now I repeat to myself: look for the colorful part.
