This artice is about some basic positioning as well as include some of the game rules that affect positioning the most. You can get some knowledge on the topic: How to use positioning correctly in order to increase winrate?
I am going to start with basic information like types of attack: melee, ranged and magic. Then I will explaind some most useful abilities: snipe, sneak, opportunity and reach. And how to use them properly? So, you will find all necessary things to increase you winrate. Proper positioning is very important because you can lose battle even when you have the best summoner, but put monster in wrong place.
In Spinterlands we have three types of attacks. Each of them can attack from diffrent position. Some of the monster doesn't have attack at all but play important role in many lineup strategies.
Melle is designated by a circular saw icon, Melee attacks are only for close range (1st position picture above) unless rulest has special condition or your monster has one of the ability such as the Sneak, Snipe, Opportunity, and Reach.
Magic is the strongest of the three attack types in bronze and silver league as it goes straight through your opponent’s armor. In addition magic can attack from any position: front, middle or back row. One of the best magic summoner from Chaos Legion edition is Obsidian from earth splinter.
Remember! Magic can be counter by use of abilities such as magic reflect, silence, phase, void or void armor.
Djinn Oshanuss at level 2 has magic attack and two anti-magic abilities: void and phase. This is very strong monster in all leagues.
Ranged Attackers can attack from any position except first row. If all your monsters in front die and your Ranged Attacker reaches the tank spot, it will just be sitting their unable to attack. If it has Close range then he can attack even as a tank. "Close range" gives you posibility to perform ranged attacks from the first position. "Close range" is also a ruleset, where all ranged monsters can attack from tank spot. The list of Chaos Legion cards with Close Range:
It is good to know basic rules about different attacks when you chose correct position for you monsters. Ranged Attackers should be placed at the backline of your team. They can be very powerful when you put strong tank in front, so they can attack from back row all the time.
Which card is a tank? Which stats make a card good tank? Mainly the tank is the first monster in the team. Due to the fact that the most attacks target the first monster, your tank should have abilities that keeps him alive for very long time. The tank is what shields your team from the opponent’s monsters. If tank dies, then monster on the second position will become your tank, and so on.
A classical tank is a Melee monster with a strong attack and high HP. A shield may be nice but as magic attacks go through shields, high amount of HP should be your priority over shields or void ability.
There are many abilities that can be effective on tanks such as:
I am going to focus on the all position in the game: from front row (number 1 - tank) to position sixth (Remember! Sneak attackers targets the last Monster).
To create a team, you need first to choose a Summoner. Each of them has special ability that give advantage to your team. The summoner also determines the type of monster that will be used in the game:
After choosing a summoner, you can now choose your cards in the collection that is associated with your chosen element.
The first spot on our team would be tank monster. You might want to choose a monster that has a high HP or other abilities which help you survive longer. Even monster without attack is good tank like Pelacor Conjurer. See him in action: Battle
Next is the cards behind you Tank. This is the place number 2. You can either choose range characters or choose a melee fighter with that have Reach Ability, where it allows melee fighters to attack from the second position. Be aware of snipe monster, they targets Ranged, Magic, or no attack monsters that are not in the first position.
When you have enough protection in front, tank and off tank on the second spot you can now focus on cards that has high damage output.
Range or Magic Attacks would be a good choice in the backlines. Armor, Speed and high HP is crucial due to sneak monster. So keep in mind to put monster with these abilities at the back row.
In the middle you can put low HP support monsters such as: Merdalli Guardian with tank heal or Scavo Hireling with repair to restores some armor.
You’ll now then proceed in the battle. You need to click ‘BATTLE’ to start the match. From this moment on, you can’t do anything but only watch your cards battle.
Creating your the best lineup for your cards is the key to winning every match. The first crucial decision that you need to do is choosing a Summoner with a specific element.
In the preview screen of any match, you’ll see the most frequent summoner that your enemy has been used in his last matches. This is the perfect opportunity for you to counter him and take the advantage.
Remember! Your lineup may change due to diffrent ruleset. I am going to write about each ruleset in next article, so check my post soon.
