Hi everyone! The pixel art I want to share with you today is inspired by a sweet character from an animated series. Her name is Heidi, and the series premiered in 1974, directed by Isao Takahata and based on the novel of the same name by Swiss author Johanna Spyri, originally published in 1880.
The series tells the touching story of Heidi, a 5-year-old orphan girl, who is taken by her maternal aunt to the Swiss Alps to live with her grandfather, a grumpy and solitary old man known as "the Old Man of the Alps."
隆Hola hivers! El pixel art que quiero compartir con ustedes el d铆a de hoy est谩 inspirado en un tierno personaje de una serie animada. Su nombre Heidi y fu茅 estrenada en 1974, dirigida por Isao Takahata y basada en la novela hom贸nima de la escritora suiza Johanna Spiry, publicada originalmente en 1880.
La serie narra la conmovedora historia de Heidi, una ni帽a hu茅rfana de 5 a帽os, que es llevada por su tia materna a los Alpes suizos, a vivir con su abuelo, un anciano gru帽贸n y solitario, conocido como "el viejo de los Alpes".
Creative Process 馃帹 Proceso creativo
I decided to choose this character and depict it in pixel art style because my mother suggested we watch this series together鈥攕he had fond memories of it from her youth鈥攕o I thought it was a good idea, as I saw it as the perfect opportunity to spend some extra time with my mother.
As for the illustration, I used a 104x104-pixel canvas and started by creating a black-and-white sketch with a line width of one pixel.
In it, I depicted this girl from the waist up, defining her silhouette and facial features, such as her big eyes and huge smile. I used thicker lines to define other features, such as her hair, since I colored everything black, just like her eyes.
Tom茅 la iniciativa de escoger a este personaje para representarlo al estilo pixel art porque mi madre me sugiri贸 ver esta serie juntas, ya que ella la recordaba con mucho cari帽o de su juventud, asi que me pareci贸 una buena idea, porque v铆 la oportunidad perfecta para pasar algo de tiempo extra junto a mi madre.
En cuanto a la ilustraci贸n, tom茅 un lienzo de 104x104 pixeles para llevarla a cabo y parti con la creaci贸n del boceto, hecho a blanco y negro, con un grosor de un pixel.
En el represent茅 a esta ni帽a a medio cuerpo, defin铆 la silueta y los rasgos de su rostro, como sus ojos grandes y su inmensa sonrisa. Us茅 l铆neas m谩s gruesas para definir otros de sus rasgos, como por ejemplo el cabello, ya que lo coloree todo de negro, al igual que sus ojos.
I added a solid color in a medium shade for the base, and then moved on to the shading and highlights.
Although the original anime is quite simple and flat, I decided to add fairly detailed shading and lighting, giving her physical features a sense of depth and volume.
So I worked on coloring her skin using a range of light and dark shades.
A帽ad铆 un color plano en tono medio para la base, para luego proseguir con los detalles de sombreado y luces.
A pesar de que el anime original es bastante simple y plano, yo decid铆 a帽adirle un sombreado y una iluminaci贸n bastante detallada, d谩ndole un toque de profundidad y volumen a sus rasgos f铆sicos.
As铆 que trabaj茅 en el coloreado de su piel con una variaci贸n de colores en tonos claros y oscuros.
Then I worked on her expression, adding a highlight to each eye to bring her gaze to life, and finished coloring her mouth with shades of red and pink. I added a line of white pixels to simulate her teeth, shaping a sweet and cheerful smile.
I also added those two little pink circles on her cheeks, and above her black hair I added a very, very soft brown shade so it wouldn鈥檛 look so flat.
Luego trabaj茅 su expresi贸n, a帽ad铆 un punto de luz en cada ojo para darle vida a su mirada y complet茅 el coloreado de su boca con tonos rojos y rosados, a帽ad铆 una linea de pixeles blancos, simulando sus dientes, d谩ndole forma a una tierna y alegre sonrisa.
Adem谩s hice esos dos circulitos rosados en sus mejillas y por encima de su cabello negro agregu茅 un tono marr贸n muy muy suave, para que no se viera tan plano.
Finally, I worked on her outfit鈥攖hat iconic little red-and-yellow dress that defines her鈥攗sing a mix of light and dark shades to add more depth and volume.
Por 煤ltimo trabaj茅 en su ropa, ese ic贸nico vestidito rojo con amarillo que la representa, para ello tambi茅n us茅 una variaci贸n de colores claros y oscuros, para darle m谩s detalles de profundidad y volumen.
And for the background, I created a white frame with horizontal blue lines.
Y para el fondo hice un marco blanco y l铆neas azules horizontales.
