"Survival of the fittest"- we read this from Darwin's evolution theory. Not sure how exactly I got to remember this one after a few incidents around me, which I'm going to talk about. That one as well about surviving in an environment that seeks for certain fitness, if not aquired you're gonna get eradicated. Let's dive into the actual chit-chats.
As I had mentioned in my previous blog post, how I have taken interns under my supervision after seeing seniors who struggle to adapt to new techstacks that differ from their comfort zones. Seen seniors, who won't make changes in their comfort zones, not even an inch for the sake of work, or so but in the CV or interview, they know everything and can adapt to everything, lol.
The big fish, people think them superior when they are placed into a senior position as if they are invincible. We had one such big fish, very clever with his words and actions to cover up the weakness, and always ready with some justifications. He always ends up coming up with new ideas instead of what's proposed to him to get done with, but his ideas always go above our head and he can't even get them done, so we see them in action, always in a loop, and he talks in riddles. After passing two to three months, his total output is close to ZERO. Yes, there are again some clever words, but when the company is paying a huge sum of money, they ask for something in return, not some tricky words. We chased him, many times, tried to get the actual work done, but he lacks in skills thats what matters the most. If you are skilled, then the authority may be flexible with you in other areas.
Another small fish, who got terminated as well, and things are going badly, and he got evaluated on strict rules. One of the two interns is getting terminated as well, and the other is going to get a permanent position. Why termination? Because he is flying like a free bird, being indifferent to the fact that during the internship period, everything gets monitored and evaluated. Do you lack skills? No problem, we will guide you, but what about the situation when you aren't following the guidelines properly? What about the situation that you are poor in time management, don't maintain discipline, shifting priorities from one task to another instead of the given one? He is just like that, running after hype and trend, and got fu**ed up pretty badly.
Kinda feeling bad for him, primarily, he was under my supervision, from the stress and strict evaluation, he kept changing tasks, and the supervisor got changed as well. While doing so, he got free and careless,s and at the end of the day, he got nothing fruitful to show on the table, by the time he realised it was too late. Even after realisation i tried to help, but it's just him being too cool to prioritise the tasks that needs seriour attention, rather he was indifferent.
Here, at our place, no scope for sitting idle and passing days. We gotta work pretty hard, get done with our tickets before deadlines, to make an impact on overall growth and all. No escape from the responsibilities, no clever tactics, or anything. When the time comes, it gets narrowed down for accountability, and the inevitable part begins, not just for them, but for all.
