Copycat! The thing of copying falls into the basket of negative impressions. In general, copying is not good. In our society, it's discouraged. Whether it's in the exam hall or the creativity of others. That falls under the radar of copyright, plagiarism, and this kind of stuff.
Copying is beneficial too. Yeah, you heard me right, it also does help a person to grow up positively too. One month ago to pass my free time I started to attend graphics designing classes. After a few days when we were done with the basics of illustrator software, we were given different designs to copy. Here in blockchain, I stay thousands of miles away from this kind of copying. Here I was told to copy other people's designs. I was a little bit unhappy.
After a few days, I started to realize the reason behind those copying advice. Because while copying a design we were asking too many questions like "How did it come here?" "Which one to do first?" "Why didn't it work that way?" while encountering the problems we were getting corrected immediately. Moreover, he did teach some design from his own which was also needed to follow before we could make one from our own.
So the main turning point in copying is the motive. For which purpose you are using it. If I am copying a design to sell it somewhere else then that's a crime. if I am doing it just to learn the ways, know the procedures then it’s accepted. Well, one can not copy in the exam hall and say that I am learning from him, my motive is to learn then it won’t work too. Hahaha. Here the timing is bad, that wasn't the time for learning.
Copying other’s work, going through people's creativity isn’t bad as long as your motive is in a good place. I still remember my early days of school. When my teacher used to write a sentence at the top line of the page and used to ask me to write them the same as the way she wrote. That's handwriting practice. This method is followed even today. In the sense of copying the handwriting style of our teacher, we used to learn writing. We can't be a hundred percent accurate in copying their handwriting style but effective enough to build our own.
Btw, I think I haven't practiced handwriting in a good way because my handwriting is pretty bad. Hushh! Don't tell this to others.
So the dark side of copying is grabbed by most of us. Many people try to copy other's creative works or just modify a little and run them by their name. Those are not acceptable in any sense. Those actions don't broaden your skills. Rather it hampers your growth. You start to lose your latent talents and be a copycat. We can't lose that, never. Work hard to make a better version of yourself for that purpose you can use copying and make yourself the better version with your wings.
So be the copycat for the greater good.
