I'll confess something.

Even though I love photographing the dishes I prepare, lately (and by lately I mean almost the last six months) I had been feeling somewhat unmotivated. I had been dealing with that feeling of not feeling too good at something I love to do and even thought for a moment if I was really good at it or it was all just a fantasy I created in my head. All this was based on the fact that nothing I was preparing was as delicious and beautiful and the pictures I was taking no longer looked like they were taken out of a magazine...I simply began to feel that I was losing that little touch of magic that, up to a point, came to characterize me.

I stopped creating, I stopped experimenting in the kitchen and I stopped immortalizing those experiments through photographs. At first, my excuse was lack of time, but no... lies! there is always time for everything. What was really going on was that I stopped feeling confident in what I was doing. Ash, you silly Imposter Syndrome, I hate you.

Today, for the first time in many months, I re-experienced that absurd urge to create and photograph. I just went to the kitchen, made my breakfast and then let the magic take over. After many months I felt comfortable again with what I was doing and the photographs I was taking. Even so, I still think there are things I need to improve, but I want to be remembered as the girl with the food pictures that look like magazine pictures.

This time I wanted to play with the colors of the photographs. Some fragments of two of the photographs are off, in black and white, and precisely this is more like a symbolism for me that represents that moment where I was practically seeing everything in grayscale, with discouragement and not trusting too much in my abilities. So that's basically the story behind today's photographs...you can see how much can be hidden behind a photograph?.
