Hi all

Just a heads up about today's update. It may be disturbing to some. I can't say he doesn't not deserve what he gets, but...read more to find out.

The Fell Dragon’s eye shot open. At first, there was confusion but then the fury he recognised descended on her. However, she didn’t get up but rather pressed her weight back to prevent the Wolven from getting up.

“You are the oldest Fell Dragon, and the universe has seen fit to release you at this time.”

She seemed to dig for something in a pocket, but he stopped her.

“I have no more power to grant your favour. Take it out and look for yourself.” He said calmly.

The Fell Dragon did so and growled when the usually golden paper was reduced to a grubby mess.

“What trickery is this?” she demanded.

“You have killed too many of us. The cage failed, no favours can be granted, and I come to you to keep the promise I made when your mind was on the point of breaking.”

She sprang at him and bore him to the ground, sinking her energy claws into his muscles so he couldn’t get free. Despite the pain, he remained where he was, not daring to test her fury or patience.

“Red-Eye! You said this place was safe. How the hell did one of the First find us?” she snapped at the Wolven.

The large Wolven unsteadily got to his feet. He looked exhausted, and that seemed to answer everything she needed to know.

“You let me sleep too long.” She growled.

“Do you still want freedom?” repeated Shareik.

She snapped her attention back to him. He remembered the terrified, broken girl who had been saved from her abusive father, only for her to be swallowed by the chaos of her timeline. A timeline she had destroyed in her insanity or revenge, they were never sure. The Champion and Fell Dragon were so close, that it was hard to see them as two different people. While everyone thought the title of Fell Dragon was the heaviest to carry, it was nothing compared to those who were being made into Champions.

“I promised freedom, did I not?” whispered Shareik.

The Fell Dragon released one set of claws and managed to crumble the favour up. She made to shove it into his mouth, but he turned his head and said, “There are too few of us right now, but that will change if you do as I say.”

She paused in her action. Buying Shareik enough time to formulate what he needed to say.

“The universe is allowing you out, unlike the previous time. The madness is yet to descend on you as it did last time. I promised you freedom and said I’d take your favour, but you had left it in your cage. Yes, I tricked you back into your cage and disappeared, but I never forgot my promise. I made sure that Wolven were created from the Vulpine to help you gather strength once more. I ensured you slept with less pain and abated the voices for longer. It was all I could do for you, but now I can do more.”

“I’m going to enjoy ending you. I don’t think I have enjoyed the blood of a First on my own tongue.” She brought her spare hand to wrap her claws around his face.

Shareik knew she was barely holding back. He had come face-to-face with this look before.

“The universe is unbalanced due to the interference of the Dekai. Remove those who shouldn’t be here, and the balance will return. With balance restored, more Heavenly should return and grant you the freedom that is owed to you.”

The Fell Dragon sat on his chest and grinned maliciously; she was barely listening to him as the fury of thousands of Fell Dragons before were screaming in her ears to end him. She pulled her other claws out and slowly wrapped her fingers around his throat. She was yet unsure how she wanted to end his miserable existence.

Shareik was unable to see her fate strings as she was contaminated with all the fates of the Fell Dragons before her. He needed to know that this plan would work. As her fingers started to squeeze, the claws cutting into his paper-thin skin, he looked over to the Wolven. Here he could see fate strings, and he knew he had been right. He didn’t struggle as the claws penetrated his face and throat as the Fell Dragon squeezed the life out of him.

Red-Eye hadn’t interfered with what his mistress was doing. She had longed to kill one of the First and had never stumbled across one while she was of a sound mind. The First hadn’t struggled as she drained him of what essence he had left, and when she was done, she sat back, panting looking at the blood dripping from her claws. She raised them above her head to allow the blood to drip down on her. She opened her mouth and welcomed the first meal she had had in a while. After the exhilaration had worn off, she got off the corpse and kicked it to Red-Eye.

“Eat.” She commanded.

He didn’t hesitate. He had allowed her to sleep too long and needed restoring his energy reserves. While he devoured the corpse, she watched him. She didn’t look pleased. He wasn’t sure if it was because a First had gotten to them or if he had allowed her to sleep as long as he had.

“What did he mean by removing those who shouldn’t be here?”

Red-Eye restrained himself from saying she should have asked the First that before she killed him. He thought this over before he said, “Travellers, like us. Those who shouldn’t exist.”

She thought this over. Some time passed, and she started to pace. She paused and looked at the grubby piece of paper she had crumbled up. She picked it up and smoothed it out. It no longer had the promise written on it. It was useless, but the old one had mentioned that more of their kind could return its power.

“So, I need to bring balance to the universe. I can do that. It is why I was made.”
“I thought you wanted to destroy the Champion.”

“Oh, I will. After all, her son shouldn’t have existed.”

Oh no...
