Greetings Readers
I hope your week is off to a great start and not a heatwave like mine was. I had a super busy weekend once more and I doubt this week is going to be much better due to a client driving me insane, but I guess we'll see.
Anyway, other than that, the writing for the remainder of Fell Dragon is going slow. I just never seem to get the time I need to add a few pages here and there. Guess I'll have to add time in somewhere, somehow, or this story will never end.
Anyway, enjoy today's update. I had to cut a scene in half or it would have gotten way to long for an update! Enjoy.
Doran wasn’t as accommodating as Pura had been. It had taken one look at Bolx, and he had threatened to burn him alive where he stood. Darla had to put herself between the two men for the sake of her two children close by. Bolx was unsure as to why the human had reacted that way until Doran said. “You are the one that put the idiotic idea of banishment into Pura’s head.”
Darla directed both of them outside with a point and a stare. When that didn’t cause Doran to calm down, she came to stand next to him and whisper in his ear. Bolx saw him visibly relax before he sighed. “You are right.”
He kissed her and indicated that the Saith should follow him to the back of the house. Once he stepped outside of the house, he saw a garden with several trees and lush green grass that had been cut short. All of this was surrounded by a high wooden fence except at the end of the property which seemed to have a natural stream and a small woodland.
“Pretty,” said Bolx as he looked around, then up. “The fresh air is good.”
“What do you want, Saith? Haven’t you caused enough problems?” Doran sat down on a lawn chair before turning his gaze towards the woodland.
“I am looking for Saita.”
Doran snorted and leaned back in the chair.
“I suspect you have been trying to find her yourself but can’t make a move because of the words that your King used. That is why you stay here instead of at his side.”
“You know nothing.”
“I know that I can help you. I can get her back.”
“And then what! She isn’t allowed to be on human land, she doesn’t get to speak to other humans. Where does that leave her?”
“Having some allies while the anger grows to be a distant memory?”
“It has been a year! You call that a distant memory? She has been out there for a year thinking that she was trash and not worthy of anything. Do you understand what that must be like?”
“So, you know she is alive.”
“Of course she’s alive. I still feel her. I still have a link with her. That is my secondary power. I kept that link because I knew if I let go of it for a second, she would be gone forever.”
“Then help me find her.”
“Why? So that the Saith can have her and threaten us with her?”
“No…”
“Go back to your planet and leave us alone. The damage is done, and the girl will eventually burn away to nothing.”
Though the anger was evident in the human’s words Bolx knew that he was deeply hurt at what had happened.
“I have nothing to go back to,” he said softly.
Doran grunted but said nothing.
“Edzeeker is hunting her, you know this, right?”
At the mention of the name, Doran fixed the Saith with a dirty look. “Her son is safe at least.”
Bolx breathed a sigh of relief and smiled. “I am glad that he is.”
They sat in silence for a while and Bolx didn’t know what else to say to get information from the angry human. He was thinking of taking his chances on the last planet she had been seen on when Doran spoke.
“Have you heard of the colosseum fights held by the Dreg Lords?”
“I have. Many young Saith see this as a way to sharpen their skills before becoming mercenaries.”
“There is a Dreg Lord, or King, or whatever they call themselves, that goes by the name of Chaka. Rumour has it that he has acquired a new fighter that is quickly climbing the ranks. Chaka hasn’t had a good run for a while, but his luck seems to have turned in the last year.” Doran said softly. “He is the Dreg Lord of the planet where Saita was taken to. I strongly suspect he has had a hand in her quick disappearance. Him and Saseric.”
“The Lizard Lord? He lives?”
“Thrives.” growled the human.
“Why is Saseric involved?”
“He has a soft spot for Saita, always has. Likely he had business on the planet when he heard about what happened. He would have secured a fighting contract for her without her having to jump through the usual hoops.” Doran sighed. “My theory at least.”
“Why the mind change?”
“I know people’s intentions, I sense them with my abilities, and you dear Bolx. You have made the mistake of coming to my house because now I know a few things about you. You are not from this place or time. You seem out of phase, for a lack of another word.”
Bolx refused to say something but wished he had done better research about this man.
“And you love her, and she has no idea.” Doran sat up and looked at the Saith in surprise. “You are not trying to find her for that reason though. There is something sinister coming, isn’t there?”
“Edzeeker made her the way that she is for a reason,” whispered Bolx. “I hate saying it, but it is true…”
“You love her?”
Bolx stopped what he was saying and frowned. “Do you truly believe this the time to ask that sort of question?”
“Would you allow her harm?”
“No.”
“I can’t protect her,” Doran said sadly. “My hands are tied but you can. Can you stop Edzeeker from harming her?”
“He has done all he can to harm her already. He doesn’t want to harm.”
“How did you get here? And can I trust you?”
Bolx took a deep breath. “Yes.”
Saita had not backed away from the challenge and the day had finally arrived for her to face Toma. Toma had argued that he fought with his pack and said he wouldn’t face her otherwise. He went somewhat pale when Saita accepted this. He had hoped with numbers on his side she would back down but instead it made her more eager to take him on.
That said, Bruno insisted on Toma only taking two fighters with him unless Saita got someone to fight with her. She refused and Toma was forced to choose two warriors from his pack to fight. Toma was sweating bricks about the upcoming fight, but Saita was relaxed. Either the marks were going to retract, or she was going to die. At this point, she didn’t care which.
This challenge had trickled down to Chaka who had at first been furious with Saita and Bruno but eventually he had no choice but to stand back and let it happen. He was after all going to make money either way and he needed it. His S-class fighters hadn’t been performing as he had hoped, and Bruno had taken too long to move the human girl up the ranks. This fight was going to make him rich. Irrespective of the result.
The big day arrived and Toma looked physically ill as he climbed up onto the platform. When he had faced Saita the last time, he had seen his own death. With his jaw locked open; he could do nothing as she grinned at him maliciously. He knew then that this human was not what he had first thought. She wasn’t playing to the crowds for attention, she was lulling them into a false sense of knowing what the outcome of a fight would be. Then she dashed all hopes of it. She was going to kill him today.
He had wanted to back out of the challenge and even begged Chaka to drop his level or sell his contract, but the Dreg King had laughed in his face saying that he had been warned and that he had brought this upon himself. He was doomed. The rest of his pack hadn’t seen her face when she stared him down. They didn’t know the fear that she had instilled in him when she promised to kill him. This human hadn’t just said that because she could, she said it because she knew that she would be able to take him easily.
He watched as she stretched while his two pack mates threw aside the shirts they had worn to the ring. They thought they looked tough. Bruno must have noticed his nervousness because he came forward and said. “What now Toma? Regretting your actions?”
“She is going to eat us alive, isn’t she?” he asked.
“Only if you let her.”
“She is going to kill us,” he muttered. “If only I had my whole pack.”
“Then call them,” said Saita loudly. “What are another three mutts to me?”
“Saita,” warned Bruno.
“He is so scared he can barely stand. Let him have his whole pack. Six dogs versus a female human, because that is what it is going to take to take me out.”
The umpire nodded his head and turned to Toma. “Do you accept the offer?”
Everything in him told him to run and not look back. But his pride would not allow him. He snarled a grin and said. “Sure, and I would like the leftovers.”
The look Saita gave him chilled him to the bone. It wasn’t fear but rather the complete absence of it. There was a thrilling grin on her face. Then her attention was drawn to something in the crowd. She lost that grin and frowned. “Damn it, why now.”
She indicated that Bruno should come to her, and he did just that. He looked at her with a pure frustrated look and was about to berate her when she said. “Someone has arrived that I have a past with. I do not want to talk to him before this match. Can you keep him busy till we are done?”
“A jilted lover?” he grinned.
“I don’t know what jilted means.” she frowned. “Just, he confuses me, and I need to concentrate on this, here and now.”
“You are a fool Saita, for allowing the whole pack in on this fight. You have seen them fight. They will tear you limb from limb.”
“Please just go talk to him.”
“Very well, which one of those in the stands is he?”
“The tall, muscular one with the wild black hair. He responds to Bolx.”
“Bolx? That’s a Saith name.”
“Yeah, that would make sense considering, well, you know, that he is Saith.”
“Well, well, a human Princess and a Saith warrior. That is one for contemporary romance books.”
“It’s not like that.” she blushed. “Please just go speak to him.”
“Oh, very well.” Bruno looked to the other side of the platform and saw that another three dogs had joined Toma. “Good luck. That is all I can say.”
Well now, what is Bolx's grand scheme and how will Saita manage to overcome the fight she has just managed to make far worse for herself? Guess you'll all have to wait till Friday!
