Candied Cranberries make a delicious holiday treat and an excellent dessert topping, if you haven't had them before, please keep reading and hopefully this post is going to inspire you to make some yourself, I am certainly delighted with these.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of fresh cranberries;
- 1/2 cup sugar + extra for coating;
- 1/2 cup filtered water.
Directions:
Wash the cranberries, discard any damaged berries. In a small or medium saucepan bring sugar and water to a boil, make sure the sugar is fully dissolved. Once the mixture is cooled down pour it into a bowl, add in cranberries and let them soak overnight in the syrup.
Drain the berries and place them on a paper towel to remove the excess syrup, they should feel tacky and it's time to get rolling. Don't dump them in a bowl of sugar, but work in batches instead, roll a few berries at a time and place them on a rack or another sheet of paper towel to dry, it is going to take an hour or two.
You can either discard the sugar syrup that you soaked your cranberries in or reserve it to mix drinks, I kept mine since I love making Margaritas and it would be just perfect for them.
So the cranberries are all dry and ready to be consumed, move them into a bowl and enjoy as a snack or use as topping for any desserts or cocktails. Enjoy!
