Hello, dear Hive Book Club community! 📚🎭
Welcome to this fourth installment dedicated to promoting and commemorating my book Teatro para imaginar y soñar! For those of you who follow my work closely, in this space I’ve been sharing the story and creative process behind each play included in this wonderful book—theatrical texts ready to be staged by any group looking for children’s theater.

(Just a reminder that the book is available in my Autores Editores store: Marcos Montero's profile on Autores Editores).

Today I want to take you back to a pivotal moment in my development as a playwright: the day I accepted the challenge of leading a workshop for teachers and community members, never imagining that, through a process of collective creation, we would craft one of the most endearing stories in the book: The Love Story of Plenilunio and Grillermo Saltarín, or, For Love, I Can Do Anything.
Below, I’ll share what that experience—a blend of teaching, personal challenge, and dramatic creation—was like.

I continued with my theater activities as usual, always thinking about playwriting and how to improve my skills. I often saw something in every detail that I could use for my writing. I was constantly observing characters on the street, situations, and people’s attitudes. In short, I was always on the hunt for new ideas.
I thought more like a writer than an actor—without forgetting, of course, that my greatest dream was to be an actor. That’s why I kept attending my rehearsals, analyzing the scripts every time we had a new production to stage under the guidance of our teacher.
One fine day, the Educational District called me to lead a “Playwriting Workshop” for the community and some teachers interested in learning to write plays. It seemed like a good opportunity, and I accepted with great pleasure. The days passed until the time came. I arrived at the designated location on the scheduled date and found myself facing an expectant audience: about 15 teachers and some six community members had come.

I have to admit that this first meeting made me a little nervous, but I didn’t let myself get caught up in the fear of a first-timer. In fact, I enjoyed it and started talking about playwriting and its vast potential for expressing our voices to the world. They really liked that; they were eager, because they already knew me—but only as an actor.
They thought I could teach them how to write plays. We got into a creative exercise called “Synectic Action.” Each person had to say a word to help create a story to tell, since every play tells a story. This exercise went very well.
The idea arose that we could all write a play together, since the story to be told had now taken shape. I divided the class into teams, forming about 10 working groups of two or three people each, and that’s how we began; each team developed what became the core elements of the action, which led to each team creating a scene.
I provided the necessary feedback, made corrections, and clarified or resolved any difficulties that arose. We built on the strengths and thus managed to truly create what we call a “thematic story” in its own right. Each group took the different units of action—or events—and wrote them out despite their doubts.

As for the title of the future play, they couldn’t agree: some wanted to call it For Love, I Can Do Anything, while others wanted to call it The Love Story of Plenilunio and Grillermo Saltarín, since it was about the love between a little cricket and a mare.
In the end, the play was titled The Love Story of Plenilunio and Grillermo Saltarín, or, For Love, I Can Do Anything. Everyone agreed. Once the proposal was finalized, I made the necessary adjustments to give the play its own style.
Everyone was very happy, and the organizers who had invited me to lead the workshop were very pleased. It was a real challenge, because at that time I was just a college student, and I had to lead this workshop for many people with bachelor’s degrees—and some with master’s degrees. I felt good, because I told myself there was no reason to get nervous—I was the theater professional here, the expert. They were educators, and their fields of expertise, naturally, were related to education rather than the arts. That’s how I gained a valuable experience that gave me greater confidence, creativity, and self-assurance as I continue my journey through the world of playwriting.

¡Hola, querida comunidad de Hive Book Club! 📚🎭
