I started a new mission at the ranch where John approached Jack to go fishing. Though reluctant at first, Jack agreed to come along with his dog, Rufus. As we walked to the river, they shared a light conversation, and Jack eventually caught a fish, that brought a moment of joy.

I started another mission back at the ranch. I walked over to Jack, who seemed to be having a good time reading a book with his dog, Rufus, resting right beside him. As soon as I approached the kid, the mission triggered.

John asked Jack if he wanted to go fishing, but the boy initially mentioned that he did not really like fishing. John replied that they needed to find some food for the ranch, adding that Jack certainly liked eating.

Even though Jack did not particularly want to tag along for a fishing trip at first, it became mandatory for him to join. It really felt like John was trying his best to teach his son some manners and build a better bond with him.

As we set off on the path together, Jack asked if John wanted him to be just like him, but John gave a quick negative response. Then Jack asked if Rufus could come along with them. The dog was already following close behind anyway.

John mentioned that a dog might scare the fish away, but since Jack really wanted his pet there, he allowed Rufus to tag along.

It was clear that John was trying to get more familiar with Jack.

He had missed out on so many opportunities back when he was living with the old gang, which was why he made the effort to take the kid fishing now, even if catching fish was not strictly necessary.

They shared a lot of casual conversation as they walked together. Once they were out of the ranch and heading down the road alone, I hoped there would not be any trouble waiting for them along the way.

During the walk, John asked Jack what he wanted to be when he grew up. Jack answered that he wanted to be a traveler because he wished to see the entire world, and John warmly appreciated that idea.

I could not help but think about how awkward John was at talking to his own son, though he still did a good job encouraging Jack to do whatever he wanted in life, as long as he did better than John and Abigail had done.

Eventually, we made our way down to the edge of the river. I prepared to do some fishing, even though John mentioned he was not very good at it. Truth be told, I am not very skilled at the fishing mechanics in the game either.

Upon reaching the specific spot, John mentioned that it was a really good fishing location, though Jack playfully disagreed, saying that folks always claimed every spot was a good one. John insisted he had heard about really big fish in these waters that were tough to catch but well worth the effort.

Both of us settled in to fish together, creating a sweet father and son moment. We had both bobber fishing with bread bait and lure fishing for the lake available.

I decided to try the bread bait first. As we cast our lines into the water, Jack remembered that Arthur had been the one who original taught him how to fish.

I distinctly remembered that exact moment from earlier in the story when Jack was much younger and I took him fishing while playing as Arthur.

After a short wait, Jack got a bite on his line, and I got a bite as well. I felt pretty sure that I would end up losing my fish because of my poor timing. However, the kid pulled his line in successfully and caught a fish right away. He was so happy with his catch, while I was still struggling with my own line, trying my best to save face as his father.

Here I'm finishing the post for today, and I'll talk about more special RDR 2 gaming moments in Gaming Photography.
