It was a quiet Christmas morning when I got out of my apartment knowing exactly where to go. The wee hours had been tough that I cried in despair because Danny and I had an argument that made him storm out of the apartment in the middle of the night. My mind was so restless so I needed to seek some peace that only the lake provides.

It was still early and I was thankful that there weren’t many people around so I slumped on the grass as I faced the empty boat which seemed to already know why I was there. Or I was just probably imagining things. I gazed at it for how long I didn’t really know. That boat was also there when Danny proposed a year ago.

And as if the water knew too that it stayed so peaceful. None of the trees swayed, not even their branches. Everything was just perfectly quiet like they were all waiting for what I had to say. Or were they grieving with me? Perhaps... I felt I found my refuge in the tranquility of that beautiful lake.

I sat quietly as I looked around. Everything in that place brought back memories of Danny and me and how happy we were before last night’s spat. Tears rolled down my eyes blurring my vision but I still sensed the calmness of the place. I heaved a sigh trying to calm myself but then I burst out and wailed instead.

"You see, Danny and I fought last night. It was Christmas Eve and we argued over some petty things. Can you imagine that? He even left in the middle of the night when we were supposed to be having a toast to celebrate Christmas!" I spoke loudly because I knew no one was around. At the back of my mind, I expected the boat or the trees or even the water would answer me back.

"No... Who would be so crazy enough to do that to you?" A voice came from somewhere, "Did the boat just talk now? I must have gone crazy…" I silently thought.

But then I heard some footsteps coming closer from behind me. I didn't know what to do so I just sat there whilst my tears continually fell down my cheeks.

A pair of warm arms hugged me from the back and whispered "I am so sorry sweetheart" then he slowly wiped off my tears, but then I sneezed so hard that my nose brought out some nasty mucus which splattered all over his fingers and a visible snot too. I looked back and our eyes met then we laughed so hard until our belly hurt making us roll in the grass.

Did he wipe the snot? I think it fell off while he was laughing his heart out. How about the mucus? The grass wiped it off I guess, lol!

Well, after the heartfelt laughter, Danny sincerely apologized and I did too, then we spent the rest of the day in that spot, reminiscing how our relationship started and even making plans for the future. We also played by throwing tiny stones on the water trying to create some ripples and laughing each time we successfully made some.

That calm and beautiful place certainly made us closer than ever and everything around it became witnesses to our dreams and goals and yes, promises too. It was late afternoon when we decided to leave walking hand in hand, hopeful and happy.

Howdy, Hivers! It is Christmas Day in my side of the universe and it's been a lovely one. I hope everything is going well with you too, where ever you may be.

The weekend-engagement prompt had me thinking creatively and my mind didn't disappoint for it came up with something so unexpected for option five:

Write a fictional or creative story using the prompt phrase: My day with nature. Use a single photo to punctuate and enhance your words. The idea is that you're creative so you write literally anything as long as it revolves around the phrase: My day with nature. Please use an inventive and creative title also, not the phrase itself because that would be uncreative of you and defeat the whole purpose of it.

Thank you once again galenkp@galenkp for the creative topics that you came up with for this weekend. And the wee story above is my entry :) The plot was just a product of my imagination (fictional) using one of my favorite photos of some years past.

Many thanks and Cheers to the Holidays!
