Another generative AI musician project had me humming yesterday afternoon, thanks to Dad, who played the song that got me intrigued and made me check it out.
Sadie Barlow, an AI-assisted country-pop music project by Distrokid, gained quick popularity for *her emotional anthems anchored in healing, heartbreak, faith, hope, and self-love. The first track below had me searching for more info online.
I Choose Me
A piano-driven melancholic ballad about choosing one's own peace and self-worth, delivered with raw, candid, breathy vocals that shift dramatically in the chorus. The lyrics are so relatable, especially for those who have been neglecting their own value. That's probably why the song gained over a million views across streaming platforms after its release two months ago.
I learned to read the silence and keep my feelings small
I kept forgiving everything 'till I felt nothing at all
I called it love
I called it patience but I was disappearing slowly
Now I finally hear the truth
I don't have to lose myself to hold you
I choose me even when it hurts
I choose more than almost
I choose what I deserve no more losing who I am to be everything you need
For the first time in a long time
I choose me (src)
The next track had my ears and heart on the first play, especially since I have loved country and pop music ever since.
Praying Through Silence
The slow tempo and soft piano complemented the vulnerable vocals, making the song even more comforting. The theme focused on navigating spiritual exhaustion and life's quiet seasons.
This third tune is a poignant, mid-tempo country-pop ballad. Its theme is quite similar to the first (self-worth, defiance, reclaiming self).
I Was There Too
I love the dynamic vocals and traditional country music storytelling tropes here, combined with clean acoustic arrangements and warm pop elements.
Truth be told, playing these tunes felt like I was listening to real human voices. AI is truly advancing, and so are the people using these tools. Hope you enjoyed these tunes as I did.
Cheers! And this is, of course, my participation in Ablaze's TTT initiative.
