My weekend experience: from football field to kitchen to guest speaker.
My Saturday was one of those full days that reminds one that he is alive.
There was absolutely no dull moment at all.
Okay, hold on and let me take you through as it unfolded.
Saturday morning it's always my football morning.
I woke up early Saturday with one thing on my mind which is football. It's our weekend routine here in my area in Enugu, Nigeria.
The field was already buzzing as early as 7am. I got there when the first set of team is were playing and I waited for the second set. When our set finally took over, we played for almost two hours with hard tackles, plenty of shouts and lots of laughter too. I came home sweaty, tired, but that good kind of tired that only football gives you.
You know that feeling after a good game? Your legs are shaking but your mind is clear.
When I got back home, laundry hours.
After football, reality set in. My dirty clothes basket was full.
I washed my clothes with my hands. No washing machine. Just bucket, water, detergent, and strength.
It took me almost an hour plus of scrubbing, rinsing, spreading on the line. People who have never hand-washed don't know it's a workout on its own. After football plus this, my arms were begging for rest.
But seeing the line full of clean clothes was very satisfying to the eyes.
In the afternoon, kitchen mood was activated.
I entered the kitchen and I cooked two things, stew and soup.
I had been postponing it since mid-week, so I decided to do both at once to save gas. I started with the stew, blended the tomatoes, frying, seasoning and then the soup.
The house was smelling so good by the time I finished. There's just something about cooking your own food after a long week of work.
It tastes different and better.
Then in the same Saturday evening, I was a guest speaker at an event that I was invited.
This was the highlight of my day,
I was invited to attend a meeting as a guest speaker. At first I was a bit nervous, but once I started talking, the nerves disappeared.
I shared my experience, answered questions, and connected with amazing people. Being on that side where people actually listen to you and take notes from what you say is humbling. It reminded me that we all have something valuable to share, no matter how small we think our journey is.
The meeting lasted longer than I planned, I left late.
Late in the evening at 7:45pm, was the time for international football.
I retired home late and tired, but not too tired to watch football match.
International matches were on. I sat down, food warmed, and just watched. After playing football in the morning, doing chores, cooking, and speaking, and watching professionals do it on screen at night felt like the perfect way to close the circle.
I slept off on the chair for a few minutes, I won't lie.
It was a stressful but fulfilling weekend. Football, chores, cooking, impact, and more football.
Sometimes the best weekends are not the ones where you travel far. They are the ones where you are fully present in your own life.
