From a high point, the area below was cleared quietly before attention shifted to a strange flock of circling crows. Their presence led through corruption, height, and finally underground, revealing that the true source of power was hidden beneath the construction site rather than above it.
I looked down from the building and spotted several Rain walkers guarding the area below. They didn't even see me coming. I took aim from my high vantage point and attacked them with my power. The distance worked in my favor, and I managed to clear them out before they could even sound an alarm.
With the guards dealt with, I noticed something strange nearby. A massive flock of crows was circling relentlessly over a specific spot, their shadows dancing over the concrete.
In this city, a gathering of crows like that almost always means something hidden, or something corrupted, is buried beneath.
I began making my way toward the crows, but a massive, corrupted tree blocked the way. I channeled my energy and burned the core of the corruption, watching the dark branches fade away to open a path into the heart of the construction site.
Once inside the site, I looked up. I was standing directly beneath the swirling mass of crows. The air was thick with their cawing, and I felt like I was close to a source of great power. KK was also sensing something nearby and urging me to investigate the area more thoroughly.
I assumed the source was high up, so I looked for a way to gain some height. I spotted a massive construction crane and began the long climb up its skeletal frame. Reaching the top gave me a bird's-eye view of the entire district, putting me close to the level of the flock.
I searched the heights, jumping across the rooftops of some buildings, but I couldn't find a Torii Gate anywhere. Usually, they are easy to spot from above, but this place was empty. Feeling a bit confused, I jumped back down to the ground level to re-evaluate.
That's when I saw it. A hole leading deep into the underground foundation of the construction site. I dropped down into the darkness and found exactly what I was looking for: a hidden Torii Gate tucked away where the sun couldn't reach it.
It makes perfect sense now. The crows weren't hovering over a building, they were circling the entrance to this shrine.
We'll continue in another post.
