Thank God it's Friday, yay! Hope you all are as excited as I am as we dive into another weekend, while for some, the weekend is all about relaxing and recharging for the new week ahead, for others like myself I have a party to attend this weekend, a christening ceremony of my cousin's newborn baby girl! Because over here we still have an after-party to celebrate the arrival of the newborn it's a tradition to give the newborn a warm welcome, so yeah it's a party weekend for me tomorrow.

I've been looking forward to this day, ever since the arrival of my cousin's newborn baby girl, even thou she lives in another state, there is no way I would miss attending this special christening ceremony of the latest princess added to our family, especially since I'm not just a regular cousin or aunty but one who is creative to come with hand made thoughtful gifts.

Trust me not to go empty-handed, so I thought of making sewing gifts for both mother and daughter, for the mum, I made a jumbo pant, you know how motherhood can be challenging at first and we don't want clothing to be a part of that challenge, jumbo trouser as the name implies are very big size trouser that gives extreme comfort to the wearer, the new mum in this case but today's post isn't about the latest mummy's pants but about the cute jumpsuit I made for our little princess. Don't worry, I will share Mum's jumbo pant tutorial in my next needlework post.

It's always lovely to see mums matching their daughter's outfit, I feel it creates a sort of bond for both mum and daughter, and I'm making it early for my sweet cousin. I bought this beautiful patterned African print fabric from the fabric store, I particularly love it because of the touch of pink color, giving that girly vibes, also it's 100 percent cotton making it gentle on the baby's skin.

Making a baby's jumpsuit is very easy and doesn't require much fabric, and since they grow so fast, I made it big so she could still wear it when she clocks one and starts walking.

Materials used are the

  • Ankara fabric
  • matching colored thread
  • buttons

Cutting and Sewing Process

IMG_20250507_125726_842.jpg

  • I started by drafting the upper part of the jumpsuit using a 6 month to one-year basic bodice pattern

  • Next, I joined the front and back by the shoulder area

  • I measured from the waist of the front to the waist of the back, then cut out a strip of 2 inches width, tripling the measurement to get its length, and then I gathered it to the original measurement.

  • Continuing, I sewed the ruffles to both sides of the measured area

  • for the lower part of the jumpsuit, I cut out the trouser pattern, for both front and back.

  • Joined the crotch area for both the front and back

  • Then I joined them by the waist

  • Finally I joined the sides and inseam area and also hemmed the base of the trousers, and that completes the making process of this cute princess jumpsuit.

I'm sure my cousin will love this matching outfit for herself and her baby, can't wait to see our princess tomorrow.
